Reading a hilarious account of the work of a police officer, he mentions the experiences of the ambulance and hospital staff with whom he often deals. Some of them tell of intriguing, unbelievable cases where people have something stuck in some part of them.
I laughed out loud at one where a man had a mobile phone up him. It was still ringing and taking calls even as surgery was performed to remove it! How would staff keep a straight face? Another was a woman who had a lightbulb in a 'frontal intimate area' shall we say - no good explanation.

Have you heard of such strange tales or even worked in medical settings where you dealt with things like this?

Back in the '80's, I worked as an OR scrub nurse and assisted the surgeon in removing a vacuum tube from a patient's rectal vault.

X-rays were taken previous to the procedure, partially in order to get some ID numbers off the tube. The tube's manufacturer was contacted to assure, case of breakage during the removal, no noxious gasses were present.

A friend of mine was a nurse at the local emergency hospital and a case was brought in where a man had a lemonade bottle stuck up his back passage. The doctor had to drill a hole in it (lucky it was plastic) so the air could be released, and it came away easily. Another story she told me
was of a woman being admitted with severe stomach pains. When the doctor realised she had many tissues inserted in her front passage, he asked her why they were there, and she said she was a prostitute and after each client she just added more tissues. (how disgusting)? P.S. I must add that this was well over 40 years ago.

Was it hard not to laugh?
