Oh shucks, Ocular Migraine

Well this morning I thought I was going to have another one but then realized my glasses were dirty o_O
Anyway, I feel better knowing it pretty common.

@CallMeKate

I've never been given an explanation about them. What I do know, is, the first one occurred when I was
under a great deal of stress. It freaked me out, thinking it was a precursor to a heart attack or stroke.
It was scary getting one while I was driving. The moving spikes were so big, I took myself to the ER where
I was in a state of panic.

I don't get them as frequently now, and when I see one starting, I lie down and close my eyes. I haven't
had a big one for quite awhile.

Yep, another crazy thing I had was vertigo. This was about 26 years ago I was just watching the morning news and all of sudden things started to spin so fast that my vision just went white. I couldn’t figure out my spacial orientation and was glued to the chair. After a bit I told the wife I better go to the ER but could only crawl on the floor. I was thinking to myself if I’m dying this wasn’t to bad because I wasn’t having any pain. So I checked my pulse & that seemed fine. Then my vision started coming back & things got better. Really thought seeing the white light I was on my way out.

After seeing the Doc the following day(s) he said vertigo. Could have been a TIA or some stuff floating around the inner ear - we'll never know.

Ever since then I’ve had very mild vertigo occasionally, especially while on the creeper underneath a car.

I have dealt with vertigo in the past. A bad attack is really awful. A doctor once explained to me the difference in vertigo and just feeling dizzy. With vertigo, you fell like you are sitting perfectly still but the room is spinning violently around you. Dizziness is just the opposite; the room is still but you are falling over, losing balance.

I hate these things. Don’t get many but they sure are freaky.
Mine look like the pixels on my TV. they are like little squares that move in a cluster and block out the real image. Usually appear around the edges. They replaced my 3 day painful migraines that used to require serious medication, and three days in bed in a dark room! They are freaky!

I like that description better than my "looking through cut crystal." It is very much like pixels that come in clusters. From now on when I see the digital counterpart happening on Utube, I'm going to say my provider is having an ocular migraine, or maybe a digital migraine.

I agree, though I have kind of gotten used to them. Seems like it happens every couple of months, lasts about an hour and never had any pain. I see the zigzag patterns.

Never had a migraine headache, are they related in any way other than the name?
No, they are not related as far as I know. I do have eye pain, pressure, twitching and blurry vision with a migraine headache. I am used to that.

The zigzag lightning of an ocular migraine was new to me. No pain, but did scare me the first time.
