Olympic Games in Tokyo - yes or no?

The Olympic Games have been rescheduled to run 23 July 2021 – 8 August but rumours say that the games will be cancelled and that Tokyo want to organise the games in 2032 instead. The Japanese government have denied the rumours and said that the games will go ahead as planned, but 80% of Japanese people who have answered a poll say that the games should be postponed again or cancelled.

Do you think the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held this year? Personally I doubt it.

I fear that is too aggressive of schedule to allow for enough vaccinations, if they could require everyone coming to have been vaccinated (with enough lag time for the shots to have taken effect), it would seem doable. In my state the original schedule indicated no restrictions on who gets vaccinated starting in June, so if that is true maybe the games could run. Sure would be a big boost in world morale (assuming it didn't backfire into a super-spreader event).

NO! Entirely too much emphasis on sports! How many have contracted COVID while attending sports activities this past year? If a fraction of the money spent on sports... from early childhood through professional ranks... were spent on education so much good could happen. At the very least, cancel this year's Olympics and reschedule in four years.
What worries me, is that Florida has threatened to welcome the Olympics if Japan bows out. I don't see how the State of Florida could have a venue constructed to handle the Games. If Japan doesn't feel holding the event(s) is safe, don't bring it to the U.S. !!!!

Oh, no, not here! Say it ain't so. We can't handle our *usual* tourists, let alone the Olympic horde (that's if anyone shows up....))

I think the athletes who would be expected to attend and compete should have a say. I imagine most have trained vigorously and are at the peak of their ability, and might feel they wouldn’t have the same chances a year or so from now, but might be balancing that against the fear of catching the disease. That raises the question of should they be required to be fully vaccinated to compete, and what would that do to places in line for. people at greater risk? Not an easy decision.

August 8???? That's a little over 4 months from now. Even with the best estimates, by that time , way less than one third of the of the world's population will have received antiviral injections.
I feel sorry for the athletes. They may be in peak physical condition, now. But no matter what they do, each day delayed brings them closer to the eventual end of being able to compete.

I rooting for the athletes and Japan. I'm looking forward to the games.
