The French are testing/using an A I driven mass surveillance system. Some worry about abuse down the road and seems the French might continue using it local matters. Also other Olympic and World Cup cities could wind up using the same type of system. So many cameras not all can be monitored by human eyes.

Paris Olympics Will Be a Training Ground for AI-Powered Mass Surveillance

Some of the issues involved are privacy concerns, what data is collected and used, number of problems or errors.

Inevitable. I know that, during protests in the UK, the Police put up equipment so they can capture all Smartphone calls going on in the area. Face recognition software is available in some places too - they scan the street identifying people.

On the one hand there are people who will scream "It's Orwellian! It's an invasion of privacy! It's big brother!"

On the other, if such practices prevented a terrorist attack, or a mass shooting, what would you think then?

You know, this whole area is going to get increasingly more complex. Surveillance comes as a response to the new capabilities the enemy takes. So, if rioters are using Social Media on the phones to organize and avoid the Police, isn't it reasonable to match them and use tech to help prevent crimes? As I say, it's inevitable, imo.
