Ok remote junkies, what do you do when your remote gets all wonky
and you can't get to your favorite channel?
How do you react? Be truthful please :giggle:
I thought I was going to have to sedate DH just 1 1/2 hrs ago for this.

The last remote I had that went wonky is a sad tale.

Being who I am, I decided that the best way forward was to take it apart and take a look at the circuit board and see if there was anything obvious that was fixable with a quick internet order and a solder-iron. In the process, cutting a long story short, I rendered the unit completely broken and irreparable.

I had to resort to Ebay for a permanent fix. :D

Of course, this was preceded with the usual, "Oh, what the hell! Why doesn't this work? What have you done?" :D

It the batteries are okay, then on the front of my TV, there is an on and off button, a volume up and down button to the left of that, and a channel up and down to the right. Also there is a source button, and menu button. They don't stick out, they are flush with the TV. They are all very hard to see and may require a flashlight, but these controls would work temporarily until you can buy a new remote that's compatible with your TV.

I keep a spare on hand. Nothing worse watching a good football game and I can’t change the volume
or flip the channels when commercials start rolling.
It would be worse if you couldn't even change the channel to be able to watch the football game you want to watch. I could live with wrong volume and not being able to change channels when the commercials start.😉

I was on a long non stop flight from Miami into LAX. We were only in the air maybe 15 minutes and everyone’s monitor shutdown. If you fly, you remember the monitors on the back of the seat in front of you, right? All the screens went black. You would have thought all the lavatory doors were locked.

I put the First Officer on it to see if he could find the problem. After about 10 minutes, he came to the conclusion that the breaker went out. That breaker is located in the cockpit’s overhead panel. We do carry extra breakers, so we had the monitors back up in about 20 minutes. The passengers applauded. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make people happy.

He called Walmart and they have one or two instore so heading to grab them both before
they get bought

That was it, he could not get any channel but Hulu and his home channel is Roku, not Hulu.
Hulu hackers???? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

If it's a newer TV then you can probably download an app on your cell phone for the TV which you can use for the time being. It's not a permanent solution but hopefully would be a quick fix for now. I have the Vizio app on my phone for that very reason !
I can't get him to put anything on his phone.

I'm on my third remote, I just use the buttons in the back till the new remote arrives. The roku app doesn't work for everything I have.

Well, guess where we just ran to? Walmart to get a new remote. He is trying it out now, I am waiting for him to scream at me
he needs the modem password. If this remote doesn't work I think he will be getting a new TV, I already priced them while
in the store so I can check around just in case.
If this remote works the problem out, I WILL be picking up a backup one next trip in to have on hand.

Thanks everyone, it's been a sheer delight reading your posts

He had no idea there was even an on/off button on the bottom of the tv

First start yelling at the TV ... it helps.
Then bargain with higher powers ...“If you just change the channel once, I swear I’ll dust the entertainment center.”
Have DH pound buttons on the remote ... maybe it just needs more authority ya know.
If that doesn’t fix things, DH should start waving the remote around like he’s conducting the Vienna Philharmonic ... muttering is music.
