On being a pet rescue volunteer

This is Wilbur the beagle, and 3 as yet unnamed but adorable kitties, all of whom spent the night last night at The Rons. Tomorrow they are moving on to foster situations and from there to their forever homes.

Ron and I still work fulltime so we can’t foster in the traditional sense, but we are able to provide the needed interim care or the segue from rescue to foster or rescue to vet to foster, all of which are vital steps to moving an animal along to their ultimate destination of forever homes.

My daughter who is very active in rescue and foster work for a variety of shelters, said it best…there’s a role for everybody in rescue work. Even if you can only commit to an overnight like Ron and me, it helps. It may well make the difference between euthanasia and a forever home!!

Good for you!! The world needs more folks like y'all.

It is so great that you are doing this. Judging by your posts, you are a wonderful human being!

Both our cats were adopted from fosters and previously lived with elderly ladies who passed away. Bugsy's foster actually traveled 40 miles to our house with all his toys and treats to make sure we could provide a good place for him to live. I kept sending her pics of him snuggled up to Andy so she would know he was happy.

I would volunteer to do this, but Andy is skittish so bringing another animal into the house without socializing them would rock his world!
