One Man, Two Drunk Driving Arrests in 10 Hours

A New Jersey man was arrested two times for drunk driving in 10 hours. The man's mother who picked up him up at jail was also arrested for letting a intoxicated driver drive.

Pathetic. Sounds like he got high or drunk again. His first arrest was at 10 the previous night. Released 3 am next day with an accident at 7 am and arrest at 8 am.
 

Entirely too many innocent victims of those who choose to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Lives taken. Lives shattered. Lives changed forever simply because people act irresponsibly.

Were I a legislator, I'd vote for mandatory jail time on even the very first arrest for DUI. First arrest... 30 days. Second arrest... 3 years. Third or more arrests... 20 years without parole.

I know some will say that is entirely too harsh. Tell that to family members of those killed or maimed by people driving drunk!!!!
 
I would agree....harsh but yes, tell that to the deceased's family. There has to be some deterrent as great as being run down by some 3500 pound vehicle. I would consider parole though, in certain cases.
 

The alcohol lobby in Congress spends millions to keep DUI convictions as "minor" offenses. Most first offenses end up with nothing but a slap on the wrist. No jail time and minimal fines. At the "worst", the offender has to have a device on his/her vehicle that requires them to blow into before the vehicle will start.
I can't help but thing that if someone was caught driving drunk and immediately tossed in jail and didn't see daylight for 3 months... and knew that the next time would be an automatic 3 years... we'd have a lot less domestic abuse, people killed and maimed on highways, etc.
 
Taking away a drivers license is hardly a deterrent for these drunk drivers....most of them continue to drive without a license. The best method to stop them may be a "breathalyzer" device on their cars ignition...they should have to have one installed...at their own expense...when convicted of a DUI.

However, in the past couple of years, cellphone texters have replaced Drunks as the biggest hazard on the highways. It's a real gamble to get behind the wheel, anymore....no shortage of fools on the roads.
 
I heard some of those dwi courses or programs the court makes driver take turn into nothing but a gripe session for those that got caught on how they got screwed by the police or it's not fair. They also said they were told those wheel locks will eventually be a mandatory part of the penalty for a dui. The driver in this case had an accident and was obviously high or drunk so why did they release him so fast. Perhaps a 12-24 hour time period hold time to help ensure the driver is sober. They also should be sure who ever picks up the driver from jail is sober, not saying a breathalyzer but just observe, this guy's mom doesn't look like the healthiest person in the world and she too may be a drunk.
