I needed a part for one of my mowers..I normally shop Amazon as I thought you could find anything there, well I typed in my part number and came up blank..

I went to the manufacturer's website. $43.25 + 17.64 shipping !!

I went to Bing Search Engine typed in the part number and got 3 parts suppliers.

1.$41.97 + 12.37 shipping (not bad)
2.$25.00 + 21.01 shipping (better)
3.$59.95 on sale for 44.95 free shipping (interesting)

Since I have never dealt with #3 I called their 800 number to see about availability. They had 2 in stock
and said it would be $31.95 with free shipping!!!! I ordered it!!!

It pays to shop around!!!...looksm.gif

Seems like a deal. I buy HP meds online without a prescription, as I am tired of doctors trying to probe all my orifices as I coast to the finish line

I have shopped online for years...and have saved a Bundle in the process. I usually look for a company that accepts PAYPAL payment...as I don't have to give out any credit card info., etc., when paying via PAYPAL.

BTW... if you are needing any mower parts, etc., check out RepairClinic.com. I have bought several parts from them over the years, for my outdoor stuff, and they usually have the best price and availability. If something breaks down in the house...fridge, washer/dryer, etc., I go to AppliancePartsPros.com. Amazon is good, but I can usually find a better deal, elsewhere....EBAY, or online retailers.

Brilliant.
As a purchaser by profession I commend you. Always shop around. And it's so easy now days with online and even being able to go direct to a manufacturer. You never know what you may be able to do.

I saw an interesting news report about online shopping. Sometimes if you go thru the steps to order an item, EXCEPT the last one (submit order), then leave the site and wait a little while……when you go back the price is lowered. Merchant figures you changed your mind, maybe shopped around, then came back and they want your business. I tried this once and it was true (at lease in that instance).

Yes, I have found this to be true using Amazon's "Wish List"..

Yeah, Pappy. You can trick them into giving you a discount. :)
Don't know whether they will keep lowering the price if you do it several times for the same item; haven't tried but I will next time I order something.

I used to be a frequent user of Paypal, but they and Ebay did me real wrong as a seller, just a couple times too many. I just trust my credit card company to protect ME in an online transaction. I now shop Amazon mostly, and have my CC on file there.

That's something I like about Barnes and Noble.com is that you can save with their rewards card. It costs maybe twenty bucks a year. But if you buy 4 or 5 books at a time like I do it pays for itself easily. You get 10-20% off each cover price automatically. Then they send you snail mail ( which I prefer) or electronic coupons for more savings. Plus free shipping! The other two features that are handy- you can create wish lists that can be public or private and they have a bookseller search engine. If a book is out of print or not in the B and N system they can match you with national list of sellers of that book, sometimes as low as $1.99. Then you pay shipping but if the book is two bucks and shipping is four you're still getting the book for a song:)

1 ditto.gif...Never used PayPal or Ebay..

Now I wonder why if #3 can make a profit at $31.95 with free shipping why not the other two!!

Markup... happens all the time. Years ago, (think dinosaur), when people were using 56k modems for internet connections, the wife was building and selling computers. At that time, Walmart sold the modem for $50 dollars. We purchased the same brand for $1 ea. and felt bad for charging $10 for it. Every person that bought one wanted to know how we could sell them so cheap. Told them, we didn't, we just didn't bend them over. :D
Now, we had to buy 10 modems to get that price. Think about what price Walmart got for buying a train load of them.
