Ophthalmologist Visit

Went for my annual check-up this morning. Since my vision has been deteriorating in my left eye, I asked if I were due for a capsulotomy. They agreed and put me in a room where the laser machine is and said the doctor would be in soon to do the procedure. An hour later, I was still waiting. A tech strolled by the room and asked what I was still doing there. I said no one had come in for an hour. She apologized and disappeared. Five minutes later another tech came in an apologized and said the doctor had some patient consultations that toook longer than expected (I suspect this was a cover-ass response). Very soon the apologetic doctor appeared. Didn't take 2 minutes, but he said he wanted be back next week and for that visit there would be no charge.

If you were here in the UK your visit and eye examinations would be Free.. nada.. zero... zilch.. after 60 years old..

I've had this happen a time or two in my lifetime. After the first incident I learned to poke my head out of the examining room if there's been no contact for about 20 minutes. When a staff member asks me what's going on, I smile slightly and say (without anger or accusation) that I just wanted to remind them that I'm there.
Sorry this happened to you @debodun.....this happens to me too everytime I've had an eye visit....I do the same @StarSong and pass away the time playing games on my phone.....

I looked out a few times and saw no one. The room they put me in was at the end of a long corridor away from the main part of the office. It seemed to me ther rooms were mainly used to store medical equipment. I think they just put me there then got busy with other patients and forgot me.

I've been known to stick my head out of the examining room and start yelling. I'm trouble.

I believe it! ;) I'd probably still be waiting if that tech hadn't walked by the room.

I just haven't been happy with this new ophthalmologist. Two years ago the doctor I had been seeing retired and the practice was bought out by another ophthalmologic firm. I've had nothing but trouble with them - double billing and saying they never received payment, bad phone service (I often get disconnected when placed on hold), screwed up appointments, arrogant attitudes, and now this. You'd likely say, "Find another ophthalmologist." Probably I should, but to do that would require a long trip into a congested urban area. This doctor is fairly close and I know the route.

Guess what? This morning I received a bill for my follow-up visit after the laser capsulotomy. The doctor said there would be no charge for it. Of course I called the office. They said the doctor had no right to say that. If I show up for an appointment, it's an office visit and it will have to be paid. They also did not credit me with the co-pay I made on the day of the procedure. I pointed that out, also. They said they haven't received it yet. Haven't received it???? It was over a month ago and I wrote a check for it right there in the office! I am really getting fed up with this practice.
