I sprained my ankle about a month or so ago. Being the macho manly idiot I am continued repairing the fence that I was working on.( Really had no choice, the cows were in the pasture) anyway I wrapped it up and hobbled around for a week. Made an appointment, had xrays and then sent on for an MRI. 3 weeks in it is still sore but seems to be healing. When I had the MRI read the PA said, "You really did a number on that, I;m setting you up with the doc to discuss surgery".
I need to see the surgeon tomorrow, but I am really leery. I am a 60 year old diabetic and probably not the best risk. Ankle seems to be healing not a lot of discomfort, just what is surgery going to accomplish? I have sprained my ankle before and have always healed ok. I just can't shake the feeling that this procedure is more to benefit the practices bottom line than my well being. This orthopedic practice is one stop shopping from initial consultation to ray to MRI to surgery to physical therapy.
I am definitely seeking a second opinion.
