Outdoor Grilling

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
I grill outside a lot. Probably an average of one a week. Living as I do in Arizona makes it easy but when I lived in South Dakota, I still grilled outside a lot. I remember standing in 3-4 in of snow grilling steaks many times. I use a propane BBQ as I like the quick heat and cool down achievable with gas cooking. I just retired my old Grill and have a new one on it's way. My favorite thing to cook is probably baby back ribs. I do not like all the sauces many use on ribs, instead I use a dry rub of spices. I slow cook, not on one of the direct burners but rather on a burner that is not on and let the side burners heat indirectly. I use a heavy griddle and cook them for a couple hours at around 325. I love the taste of outdoor cooked meats. I was hoping some of you folks also grill and want to share some BBQ stories.

We grill as often as 5 days a week during the summer. Love to make the entire meal on our big gas grill-steak,baked potatoes, asparagus and corn on the cob. Yum. Also do our turkey every year on our huge charcoal Weber. Been doing it that way for over 40 years.

My husband does all of our BBQ grilling, and the grill is on the porch, so even in winter when it's actively snowing, we can have a barbeque. He mostly does rib-eye steaks, which is a favorite of both of us. Our grill is charcoal, and we chose not to upgrade to anything else, we like the way it cooks and smells. His steaks always come put really juicy, tender and flavorful. We both like medium rare.

Usually the other thing he makes for us is barbecued St. Louis ribs. He rubs them with sea salt and marinates them overnight with traditional original Kraft barbeque sauce. He browns the outside, then closes the lid on the BBQ until they're slow cooked and tender. Only other thing we grill is occasionally some lamb.

We joke, because like Al Bundy from Married with Children sitcom, we say no fish will ever touch our grill. :p

I have a WEBER "BabyQue" ( I think that's what its called.) It's small compared to the super duper BBQs I've seen around. But it's big enough to roast a small turkey
if I ever wanted to. Use it mostly for burgers, steaks and chicken. A tank of propane lasts me about a year. (BTW; no charcoal involved.)

We have a tiny charcoal Weber (a Smokey Joe) I think it`s a 14 inch grill. Hubby and I used to use it when we went camping alone. Never happens anymore though. Then I got him a little rectangular gas Weber. He loves it. But since he was happy with that, after not liking gas before,I got him the big gas grill that we can cook an entire meal on. Our huge charcoal Weber that we do turkeys on lives at our daughter`s house since we took it down there several years ago to cook the Thanksgiving turkey on. We do that at their house every year now and that`s all we use it for so it just stays there.
