Over 100m Americans urged to stay indoors over extreme heat and humidity

Has this been described as a Heat Dome? I’d never heard the term until last year when we had weeks of unusual very hot & dry early and extreme heat in the middle of the summer. We were hotter than Vegas at one point. The forests dried out and we had massive forest fires.
I do seem to recall that expression being used in one of the threads about the extreme heat. I'd never heard it before either.

poor cattle, they now live entire short lives in feed lot pens. its awful for them.
tween the filth and the heat--and many of these cows are black, WHO Breeds BLACK livestock
in this kinda heat?---they live about two years is all. they are too costly to feed nowadaze.
they have very short lives.

they used to eat grass, then hay, now they eat 'mechanized' grains.

@hollydolly Check this out. You might be able to use a portable air conditioner in your casement windows this way. If nothing else, a portable in your bedroom would at least give you a place to go that's cool and give you some relief, so you can get some sleep. 😓

That's what I did, but I used a piece of 1/4" thick plywood instead of plexiglass. It's only used in the bedroom right now, and I don't spend a lot of time looking out the bedroom window, so it doesn't need to be transparent. Plywood is a lot cheaper than plexiglass.

i had about ten minutes of this weird stuff falling down and then hitting windows leaving marks.
...was it....rain drops?.....maybe...possibly the first rain drops in over a year...or more..
No rain in over a year? Do you get snow - or has there been no precipitation whatsoever? Wow! I thought it was dry here...

at 7000ft Rockies we had very little snow over the winter. the higher mountains got some snow, they did look ok for
much of winter. the snow is all gone now from the big mountains, its running down the rivers towards
the ColoradoRio and then to Lake Powell where they will hold it, not release it downstream.
both CO and NM have hydro elec power originating in Powell which Has to maintain a certain level.
locally we have very little water by comparison to 'normal'. but, we have some this year, last year
the reservoir was EMPTY. nada. zip aqua.

NV AZ and CA wont be getting any CO Rio waters...not sure what Imperial Valley IRR gets, or not.
why Vegas still allows pools to be filled is amazing, fountains also, the waste of their own
drinking water is shocking imo.
some in LV are suggesting people stop chlorinating their pool water in case they need to drink it.
yah. srsly.

so suddenly the other nite....we had RAIN. it came down a bit, then it came down lighter off/on for some hours.
ive not seen rain in...as i said...Years. a few drops now then is all. this was a "rain" finally.
it was nice. the land grasses and trees sure liked it.
:giggle:(y)

They'd be better off drinking potable water and using pool water for flushing and cleaning. I'd have to be pretty desperate to drink the water in my pool unless I had a solar still or some other distillation method in place.
