New ruling involving the Department of Labor and overtime for salaried employees. The threshold for paying overtime was risen from $455 to $1000 a week for salaried employees getting overtime.

Yes there have been many abuses of the "salaried" or management employee over the years but most salaried positions/employers are very explicit in how the employee is paid. Most tend to be management positions. Some jobs are misclassified on purpose to save money. But most salaried positions are strictly voluntary. Too many think they can beat the system assuming they can do the job in less than 55 hours a week or call their own schedule. Others suck butt by working extra hours for a bonus, promotion or extra job security-these are the ones that mess it up for everyone. Most are not honest with an employer. Many employers are dishonest with their employees. If there were more realistic pay and productivity expectations/requirements there wouldn't be many of these issues.
