Just got a notice today, not only did we get turned down for food assistance...they cut off our Medicaid too...:( PFFFFFFFFFT Well the blessing is the new job and I'll have a union and benefits but that's still a month or two away. There's a clinic where I can get my meds for free. Just have to call around tomorrow and find it. But my husband is on two Parkinson's meds that are way expensive. I'll call his doctor tomorrow and try to find some leads. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Sometime the maker of the nongeneric medicine will offer free meds. If you know the nongeneric name of the med go to their website and look for information on free meds or reduced prices. Sorry this is happening to you.

Sorry to hear this Fur, you're right, it it always something isn't it? I don't have any advice about the meds, but good luck in getting everything you need.

I found a bunch of senior resource lists I'll try tomorrow. BTW kids, if you're ever in the same boat...you want to deal with the manufacturers, your doctor, or a real live government referral line only. There are sites out there that quote you prices at discount but then want an "enrollment fee"...nononono, there are better routes to go if you're persistent.

Gosh, I hope you get this all worked out really soon! You must have been incredulous when you first were told. I'd be a basket case in your situation. You seem so upbeat despite the crap fur. How do you do that?

Check with your local County Health Department. They usually have a wealth of helpful information and resources.

I guess that's what I was trying to say but it must have not come out right.

I've also found a bunch of Parkinson's Disease resources today to help hubby somehow. With me...one clinic had a four month waiting list. But then another number and the woman had a flyer in her files...you have to be in my county and be over 18...and maybe there ain't a waiting list and I've learned my way around Newark.

But really how %#&%ed up is United States health care? Even for the rabid Republicans. If you or your spouse had a job with little or no benefits. Medicare was there for ya and you weren't old enough for Medicaid by just a few years. But hey you are still managing to work. And you make like $24 over the poverty level and say you have cancer? Well sucks to be you.

Really if I can figure out where to get my meds and his meds, his doctor appointments are here and there just keeping him stabilized. But woe to the folks who don't know how to find resources. I took social work as a minor through a bunch of semesters. I can all but do my own casework. But back to someone with something critical like cancer.

You now have no doctors or medication unless it's out of pocket. You have a job but can't afford meds or the doctor anymore? You can get on a waiting list and hope you don't have any health crisis in the meantime. An emergency room can stabilize you but not treat you. So you just have to wait 3-6 months and hope you get the right clinic.

For any of you cancer survivors just try to absorb that scenario...
