I was watching an episode of Ozzie and Harriet yesterday. In this episode, Harriet wanted to surprise Ozzie for his birthday by giving him a wedding ring to wear that was similar to Harriet's.
Was the custom for only women to wear wedding rings and not men? Does anyone have any insight to share for a curious mind?

Machinists or machine operators, electricians, carpenters,( nurses,) construction workers, mechanics, cooks and chefs are some professions that wearing a ring could prove dangerous. I think it’s customary for both bride and groom to exchange rings and wear them.
When my husband worked as a maintenance man at a saw mill he got hung up on a piece of equipment by his wedding ring and had to have it cut off. After we got him a new ring he was driving a truck (big rig), he went to flick his ashes from a cigarette out the window and now his ring is somewhere in Wyoming. He no longer wears a ring.

Rings can be dangerous. I’m a woodworker who uses different saws, grinders, sanders, lathes etc and have had to have a ring cut off. Wearing one can rip your finger right off in some cases.

I take it some hot ashes got stuck between his ring and his finger so he quickly threw the ring out or lost it taking it off.šŸ˜

I rarely if ever wear jewelry. Not just for the safety aspect but mainly because it does nothing for me.

My parents were married in 1937 and both wore rings although my father worked with a jigsaw and other construction tools everyday.

My husband and I exchanged rings at our wedding but only kept wearing them for a few years. I'm allergic to nickel and almost all jewelry irritates me. My husband just didn't like his.

Back then, it was customary for the groom to give the bride a ring. Reciprocal from the bride was optional. Some weddings were even billed as "a double ring ceremony". Although I can't see what difference it makes. If a married person wants to hide the fact thay are, all they have to do is slip the ring off and conceal it.

My husband has never worn his wedding ring. It started in the military and his job.
It never really bothered me. I knew he was married and he knew he was married.
I took mine off immediately when I broke my wrist. I thought about leaving it off because I have caught it a time or two.
It was on the dresser this morning and I went ahead and put it on. Felt strange without it.

But the ring leaves a tell tale indentation on the skin when it's taken off!

Not your Ozzie & Harriet wedding band
Men's 18K Gold 6-band Puzzle Ring I picked up at the Gold Souk in Dubai, United Arab Emirates back in the 90's

Probably the most well-known legend about puzzle rings, and it’s unknown whether it’s true or not, centers around the idea that puzzle rings were originally designed to ensure fidelity in wives. A husband would give his wife a puzzle ring as a wedding ring and not tell her the solution to the ring. It was believed that if the woman decided to be unfaithful and removed the ring, it would fall apart and she would be unable to put it back together in time to avoid discovery. The husband, upon seeing the disassembled ring, would know that his wife was cheating on him. Fun story whether true or not.

I don't wear rings often and this one is usually stored with a twist-tie holding it together or it WILL fall apart into six intertwined rings. After purchase, it took me three (3) days to figure out how to put it back together in the ring form you see. Even now, it takes me some time to get it back together if it falls apart.
