Part time job hunting

Hello All,
New here and retired for the last few months. I’ve been interested in finding morning part time work but haven’t had any luck so far. I’m just looking to keep busy as my wife is still working. The jobs I have put in for, meal delivery driver, and hospital patient transport among others have been denied. Do any of you have ideas where I could work that would welcome seniors?

Try the local car dealerships, many of them have openings for shuttle drivers and vehicle transport drivers.

Also school districts hire people to direct traffic and students at the school during morning and afternoon pickup.

If all else fails head for Walmart or a major supermarket chain and apply for a job chasing carts.

Getting driving work in old(er) age is a case of potluck. I used to run the company's commercial vehicles to and from the works repair centre, that is until the company's insurers got the heebie-jeebies about insuring an eighty-year-old driver.
My driving days came to an end, now I am retired and at a loose end, although that may change soon. As for where you might work, I have seen requests for help from seniors in the window of supermarkets, but I should imagine that if your preference is for mobility a static kind of job wold soon become tedious.

Have you considered being a volunteer at a Veterans Administration Medical Center? Emphasis on volunteer not an employee with compensation. I do this two days a week for four hours each of those days. It allows me to be absent when traveling or around holidays, but is very interesting and fulfilling. There is an application process and you must pass a background check. If accepted the duties are to assist veterans or provide directions to locations in the center, various clinics or service areas.

Takes some time to learn your way around suffiently. In my case I had been receiving my health care at the facility so I already knew where many of the locations were. Most centers have employees responsible for those duties, called ambassadors, but there is always a need for more assistance. You might simply provide directions or assist in using facility map, but in some cases you may be called upon to transport a veteran with a wheelchair.

I am a disabled veteran but my conditions don't prevent me from assisting others. For me it is a way of giving back to fellow veterans while at the same time it is theraputic. Most days their I get the steps and exercise in that I would otherwise find it hard to motivate myself to achieve each day. As stated there is no monetary compensation for volunteers but the appreciation from the veterans as well as the ambassadors is sufficient.

Some days the only service I provide is a greeting or friendly conversation with another veteran. The kind words of appreciation or simply a nod of appreciation can be enough. Frankly, my wife appreciates me getting out of the house a while, especially during seasonal days that don't allow me to be out in my shop or doing yard work. Give it some thought. If it isn't a fit for you maybe one of your friends would find it just what they are looking for.

I like the idea of driving for a job. My brother who is 70 drives for a funeral parlor and delivers doughnuts for his son's bakery. I just realized I am eligible to make as much money as I can with no penalty to my social security income. I like the idea of driving because you have only one thing to do and your experiences can be varied from day to day.

Go for it. The old saying, "do what you love and never work another day in your life."
 
Do you by any chance have a Whole Foods nearby? I notice many seniors working at the Whole Foods near our house. Most are simply putting out bags and assisting customers at the self-service check-out. There was one woman working there that spent more of her time chatting with customers than actually working. I've heard from someone who worked there that they are incredibly flexible with their hours.

I used to know a lady who transported special need children. The school provided a car and she only transported 4 or maybe 5 kids.
She drove them to school then she was off for a few hours then she drove them home. Not exactly a flexible schedule But.
You get all the time off the kids get. Holidays, breaks, snow days, summer vacation.

I have a friend who was doing that last semester. She isn't doing it this semester.
