People assume a lot

Why does everyone assume I have a call phone and credit card?

If I advertise something for sale on Craigs' List or Faceboook, I usually get a response "Text me at xxx-xxxx." When I PM them back and say I don't text, I don't hear from them again.

When I try to pay for things and hand over money, people act like they don't know what to do with cash or look at me like I was an alien. I think a credit card can be a dangerous thing, but it's getting to the point that one cannot function financially without one.

Well, "time marches on" as they say. I resist giving out my cell phone number to service providers(DISH, my health-care provider, etc) because they want to text me with....whatever, alerts, communications, advertising.

I don't text much, so I don't hug my cell phone like alot of people do.

Same here, I carry a cell phone for my convenience and don't give out the number or answer it very often.

Almost the same with a credit card, I like cash and I pay for most things with cash. I pay at the pump for gas and make internet purchases with a credit card. I always pay the bill in full every month.

There's nothing wrong with not texting or paying with cash. LoL. I pay with cash frequently, for gas, sometimes groceries, the lottery, yard sales. I only use a credit card when making a large purchase or when buying on line. Nobody looks at me funny for using cash. Hey, it's money. Right?

I established and maintain an excellent credit rating to enable a very low interest rate when I buy a home or a car. Just trying to make the best of a rigged system. My cell doesn't even have the same area code of where I live and nobody but my insurance company has the number in case I get in an accident. I use my cards for minimal purchases (pizza) to keep them active and pay them off monthly. No texting, no facetiming, no skyping, no twittering, no snapchatting.... screw the so called advancements in making everyone envy you by your social media privacy abandonment. I cannot care about where someone is 24 hrs a day, what kind of smoothie they love (with a picture) who is too fat, who is too skinny, who needs to be arrested by the fashion police and what I should think. progress my butt.....:torch:

They also assume everyone has an email address which isn't true. I have friends and family that don't even own a computer so of course they don't have an email address. I've shopped in stores and when I check out, they ask for my email address. I tell them I don't give that out because I get too much junk email already. That shuts them up every time.

Credit cards have about supplanted cash and checks and using physical credit cards may get supplanted by virtual credit cards on smart phones.

I use to use cash at restaurants, drive throughs, etc where your credit card might leave your sight. But we had a lot of counterfeit money showing up around here and it you get stuck with it, you're stuck with it. It also started getting a little dicey stopping by ATMs to get cash. You might get robbed on the spot, followed and robbed later, get counterfeit money from the ATM (although I'm sure they claim that isn't possible, I'm not so sure), not get the correct amount, or use an ATM that is compromised. I found an AARP credit card through Chase with a 3% rebate at restaurants and gas stations that has a $400 limit that I use. I check all my credit cards online every morning and hardly use cash anymore.

I don't text. The kids and 2 close friends have my phone number. I am on FB but only to see the pics of the grands and their friends. I don't post to it but if I see a saying I like I will share it on my timeline. I use a little cash but prefer to use a rewards credit card and pay it off at the end of the billing period. I don't care to see what everybody is doing. I don't tweet, snap chat, or face time. I don't want any bill to be taken out of my bank account and I shredded the debit card they sent. I have a great credit rating altho I don't see buying another home or car. I noticed on my credit card that I had a $19,000.00 credit limit. I called and said I will never want to owe that on a credit card. Reduce that to $1500.00 as I do put my car and house insurance premium on it for the rewards each year. If it hurts my rating to have it reduced I don't care since I am not buying anything expensive anyway.

I need to lower the maximum limits on some of my credit cards too, that's a good idea. I did go to the trouble of getting an ATM card that is not a debit card. You can do that, although initially they told me there was no such thing as an ATM card that is not a debit card. I knew there was such a thing because friend of mine who is a lawyer told me had done it and you might have to INSIST on it.

I've been a texting grandma for a while now,I just prefer over talking and running out of stuff to say.
I think the use of cards,be them be credit or debit is probably tied into direct deposit.
It seems no one really carries cash anymore.
Found out the hard way while trying to pay for some short term parking at the airport,my debit card was sitting in my wallet which was sitting in my glove box in my car and I was driving the car of the people I was picking up,
Between me and my fella,we managed to scrape up the 4 bucks.

I use credit cards to pay for things online, and use my debit card for shopping. I see exactly where my money goes, and I don't have a bunch of paper receipts laying around cluttering up the place. I hate paper receipts and trying to keep track of them. I have one card I use for large purchases, because of its rewards program.

I have a high limit card for emergencies, and have it flagged so the card company calls me if a purchase is attempted over a certain amount.

I have a cell phone for my own convenience and safety -- it came in very handy when I had a flat tire and when my old car died in the street. I wouldn't be without it, but I don't give out the number except to my sister and a couple of trusted friends; I never just use if for having conversations, and I don't text.

I don't carry money around, both for safety reasons and also it's harder for me to keep track of cash and where it goes.

Awhile back, I became aware that almost all of the phone calls to the landline were telemarketers. Our friends would call our cell phones. So, we dropped the landline and saved some money. Since then, there has never been a time when we regretted not having the landline, except when we had to give a phone number to someone that was likely to call to sell something.

We use credit cards for almost all purchases. They are set up to auto-pay from our bank account, so we never get finance charges. We get a nice monthly statement of where we spent money and we get the 2% bonus from the credit card company. For one of my cards, I get a discount when buying from Apple and a gift card instead of airline miles.

It works for us.

LOL, that's so funny and exactly how I feel, too! Well said!!

If you have a cell phone, I think it's a good idea to change the phone number if you feel you are getting too many scam calls etc.

Just give out the new number to whoever you want to have it.

I'm getting a new phone and I have requested a new number.

I don't even know my cellular telephone number!

The cell phone is in my car's storage console, where I may use it one day to report a highway accident to the Highway Patrol.

Other than that, it's never been used, during the 13 years since I've had it in my cars.

I just keep the battery charged from the car's 12 volt outlet.

How do you know it works?

People assume alot of things. I don't have a cell phone ...( except for one like Hal , for emergencies only ) I kinda like being "the odd one" .......... heh heh When someone wants to text me , it puts them on the spot . I must have an odd sense of humor, because I think it's funny !
I also never give out my email unless it's for something super important.

I know it works because I keep getting displays of the calls I've missed.

Ho hum...

HDH
You know it lets you know you missed some calls so you think it works to make calls (and it probably does), but to really know it works you should make a call with it ever so often. What's the harm?
