People texting at inappropriate times

It's bad enough that people are always on their phones when you try to talk to them. There are others who are texting like crazy and driving on the road when you are on it too. Doesn't that scare you? It scares me. If I am next to someone doing that I try my best to get the heck away from them. I don't need to be in an accident.

I think there are laws against it here, too, but that doesn't always stop those people who are addicted to texting. Know what I mean?

Many States have laws against using the cell phone while driving. I would like to see those laws expanded. Since "Privacy" is almost non-existent anymore, I think the police should have the right to subpoena the cell phone records of anyone involved in an auto accident....and if it is found that they were on their cell phone at the time they slammed into another vehicle, the charges should be increased to things like Assault, if the other party survives...all the way to 2nd degree Murder if they kill someone while driving and texting. I have absolutely NO sympathy for distracted or drunk driving.

Distracted driving. Texting nim rod drivers will ruin it for everyone one day making changing a radio station or putting the defroster on a distracted driving offense.

Our State and City both have laws against texting while driving. We live in a college town and see many, many young drivers paying more attention to their phones than where they are going.

It's even getting hazardous in the grocery store. People are texting or talking on cell phones and not watching where they are going. If they almost run into you, they glare as if it's your fault for not paying attention to them. Aaarrrgggghhhh......

I still cannot comprehend how people... we... survived for generations without having to be in constant contact with friends, relatives, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Today's generation sure can't seem to cut the phone umbilical cord for more than 30 seconds at a time!!!!!

You are all right, texting is such a nuisance. I wonder if they have a 12 step program for addiction to texting. I think it would be a good idea.

This is nothing new. There have been laws against texting while driving for years.

Instead of driving away when you see someone doing this aren't you supposed to call 911 and report the driver?

Well, you are not supposed to use a phone while driving either.

Some of these cell phone types can be really annoying. Today, the wife had a physical at the hospital, and we stopped at a restaurant for an early Supper afterwards. There was a woman seated a few tables away that was having a lively conversation with someone, using her cell phone on "speaker" mode. She had the volume turned way up, and was speaking loudly between mouthfuls. There were perhaps 20 people in the restaurant, and everyone was able to hear every word she and her "friend" were saying. After about 10 minutes, the manager had to go over and tell her to tone it down...and the gal acted like she was being picked on. What a buffoon!

I hate it when people talk loudly on their cell phones in public like that. Do they really think everyone wants to be a part of their conversation? Or are they just too inconsiderate to care?

One driver scared the heck out of me when I was stopped at a traffic light!! I looked in my rear view mirror and saw him approaching and he was looking down at his phone!!! Fortunately he stopped in time but I had no way of warning him and no where to go as there was another vehicle in front of me!!!

Yikes, that is scary!

texting and driving is the worst. We have distracted driving laws here. They are mildly enforced in my opinion. I am particularly afraid of these idiots because hubby and I ride motorbike and these people are mindless drivers that sway and swerve all over the roads.

The police are able to subpoena your cell phone records; they can take your cell phone as evidence as well.

BTW, "hands free" cell phone use(via bluetooth) is legal in many jurisdictions.

I'd like to see phone free zones in some public spaces. Our generation can remember when your phone was in your house connected to the wall. If you had an urgent need to call someone away from home you might use a pay phone...how quaint. When did society decide they needed to be connected 24/7? I was on the bus the other day and there was this woman yammering away. Then her phone went dead and she asked to borrow another. You know we all wanted to hurt the person who gave it to her.
