You're so right...I was thinking of somewhere like the middle east... it looks just like areas of Iran/Iraq etc... it's hard to look at it and think it's minus 80 deg f... when we're so used to temps like that being covered in ice... but of course that would require water
 
To the west of the continental divide the waters flow west. To the east of the divide the waters/rivers flow east.
