PFAS, the "forever chemicals, present in our plastic containers and much more!

PFAS chemicals are characterized by their chains of carbon atoms bonded to fluorine atoms in a process called fluorination. The bonds are ultra strong, ultra stable, and paramount to their value in the manufacturing of semiconductors, firefighting foam, smartphones, medical devices, aircraft, and solar panels. They enable consumer products to better repel water (such as raincoats), to fend off stains (carpets), and to resist grease (microwave popcorn bags). They are ubiquitous in our homes (plastic containers).

The persistence of these carbon-fluorine bonds, prevent PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) from naturally degrading, earning the nickname "forever chemicals." In water, soil, or blood, they just keep piling up. The consequences, which can take years to materialize, can be devastating. Researchers have linked PFAS exposure to cancers, birth defects, infertility, high cholesterol, and other medical issues. Teh effects on the world's animal kingdom could also be disastrous.

Like so many other seemingly dangerous conditions that people can control, the existence of PFAS chemicals were developed and used to a purpose. Eliminate them and what is the effect with respect to the purpose they address? Would we rather experience life's consequences without them or with them? What are the offsets and alternatives? These are the questions we must ask and deal with to every thing and situation human beings have created, and there are many.

So until you and all the other 'concerned citizens' enlist me in your crusade to rid the world of this or that evil I want you to answer these questions. If you can't to my satisfaction, then take you 'revolution' somewhere else. I will sleep all the better for it. But, if you can answer these questions to my satisfaction then you have my ear. Thank you.
