Pfizer vaccine receives full approval

Today, the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S. gave full approval to the Pfizer vaccine. I wonder how much effect this will have on the vaccination rates both in this country and around the world in those countries which are administering the Pfizer vaccine.

I have a feeling it won't have a tremendous effect because I believe that a huge number of people who have been saying they won't get an experimental vaccine will find some other reason not to get it. Then, again, I've become very cynical.

What are your thoughts?

Pfizer also announced a "name" for its vaccine....Comirnaty....and will probably start showing TV commercials. If, as expected the CDC EUA expires in coming months, and the Moderna and J&J vaccines also receive FDA approval, and the CDC EAU is allowed to expire, the costs of these vaccines will begin to rise rapidly, and no longer be free. For those still on the "fence" it might be wise to get the shots soon, before the drug companies begin to pad their profits.

The costs may or may not go up; I don't know what the deal is between the world governments and the pharmaceutical companies. However, they aren't "free" now in the U.S.; the government or medical insurance is paying for them. If people get their shots from a health department, they may or may not be asked for their insurance; if they get them from a private company such as a pharmacy, they'll probably be asked for it. The government is paying for those without insurance who get the shots from private companies.

I agree. I've become cynical to the point of being misanthropic. And it brings me a bit of joy every time I hear that a vaccine conspiracy theorist or anti-masker has died from covid. Should I feel guilt from experiencing schadenfreude? I don't in the least. It makes me want to celebrate.

You're right that the booster shot won't have an effect on vaccination rates. The anti-vaxxers won't change their mindset now that it's set in stone. Trump even got booed when he told his followers to get vaccinated at a recent rally. People feel like they're rebelling against the big bad government and elitists, or perhaps the "deep state" by not getting vaccinated or taking precautions. It's a barometer for the current state of society in our country and others around the world.

You have to feel a bit of empathy for them. People are desperate for meaning in their lives, and they cling to whatever will provide it, even if it means getting severely ill and even dying. Perhaps they see themselves as martyrs for their cause.
