Phallus impudicus mushroom and other things growing in my yard

I water almost everyday but sometimes husband does. The other day we were both in the yard at the same time. What is that my husband asked? Hmm, looks like an, no not that, maybe an exploded firework? No, he says. Ants are crawling on it. Hmm. Yuck, it looks like a *****, don't touch it.

I get the rake, rake it, it breaks, he's right, it’s not a firework. Husband says he’s never seen anything like it. Really? It’s a ***** shaped. I think you’ve seen something like it. 😂. Google says in the egg stage you can eat it. Yuck.

Also have had blackish blue mushrooms growing in my yard, google says poison. And a huge saucer sized mushroom, and the little button like mushrooms. It’s a mushroom yard. 🤦🏻‍♀️

^ Yes, recalling this from when my uncle had a farm. The general idea: if you didn't plant it, don't eat it! It's difficult for "the untrained eye" to know the difference between good mushrooms and what the older folks called "rank poison."

My husband has been an outdoorsman all his life, and for as many years that I've been going mushroom picking with him, I still don't feel confident enough to pick certain varieties that we eat, due to the subtle variations between edible and poisonous.
 
Even though my soil is bad and lawn is bone dry, I just water a few times a week to keep the little grass I still have alive. I get mushrooms every year though, just pull the big ones by hand and get rid of them, one recently was big enough to make a mushroom burger out of. Don't know if any of mine are edible, and glad the dog and cat ignore them.

That’s what worries me, the dog, so as soon as I see them into the garbage they go.
