Phil Spector

Oh my. Thanks for the great music Phil, the 'Wall of Sound' and especially the Ronettes.
R.I.P. you crazy old man.

Funny how they're saying he died of Covid. The article I saw this morning said he died of "Natural Causes."

Found the article from this morning:
"Phil Spector was hailed as a visionary for channeling Wagnerian ambition into the three-minute song, creating the “Wall of Sound” that merged spirited vocal harmonies with lavish orchestral arrangements to produce such 1960s pop monuments as “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “Be My Baby” and “He’s a Rebel.”
He was convicted of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003 at his castle-like mansion on the edge of Los Angeles. California state prison officials say he died of natural causes at a hospital at age 81."

Phil Spector dies of Covid .. age 81. He was once considered brilliant. Sad what he became.

It wasn't the first time he used a gun to get his way.
In an interview, John Lennon described an incident at his house when they were discussing something involving a recording technique. Phil became frustrated about something they disagreed with & he grabbed a gun & fired it at a wall or ceiling.
John got really mad & cussed him out, saying, "You __________________, I need my hearing, you___________."
During the trial, several women testified that Phil would point guns at them when they wanted to leave or when they didn't do whatever he wanted.

Nothing against this man may he RIP .............. but i think he was a example that regardless of talent etc people are NOT always what they are painted as..... producing good records does not excuse his behavior.
This has been going on forever with the famous ...... behind the scenes many are not always a good person...... not always nice
The public does not know them........ regardless if we followed their career or watched interviews, read articles etc.....

According to Ronnie Spector, in "Be My Baby. How I survived Mascara, Miniskirts and Madness". Phil was a great record producer. And I admit I love his "wall of Sound". "Be My Baby" is my favorite song. Yet, nobody ever accused Phil of being honest. For instance, in his first hit "To Know Him Is To Love Him" ( That is what is written on his dad's tombstone). He advertised for drummers. When they auditioned, he recorded them, and then used that track in the song, without paying them.. Even with Phil's warped accounting practices, I think it was the Ronnettes , who were due a $3,000 royalty check. He met them at a restaurant, gave them a $300 check., which they had to split. They were essentially kids, who didn't know the music biz. That $300 was more money than they ever had. But good ol' Phil also stuck them with the tab for restaurant. While he had great musical and promotional skills, as a human being, it's hard to come up with his moral assets. He was bastard, but he could make great music.
