Picked up for snow shoveling?

That's just crazy... I remember a few winters back practically begging kids to come shovel for us during the horrible winter.. No takers.. and we were paying pretty good. Guess kids in our neighborhood don't need the work..

It is a sad commentary that so many kids are spoiled to the point that they don't have to earn any spending money...

I admire their ambition but if two young men wearing hoodies came to my door, it would frighten me. That's a shame , too, but that's the way the world is today.

I just read the story and I think those that read the story should understand why the PD was called. One thing for sure, us older folks MUST understand that we are NOT living in the "day and age" we grew up in! I read what the Chief said and I completely understand what happened.

I have no idea why the OP titled part of this Thread "Picked Up"........these boys were NOT "picked up", they were talked to. Heck, the officer let them go and they went on to make some money shoveling snow. In fact, the boys even understood why they were stopped and talked to. I mean, there was a State of Emergency going on and NOBODY was suppose to be outside.

And, there are laws today that we didn't have years ago. Just like the Chief said, "we don't make the laws, we just enforce them".

I sort of understand the anti solicitation angle as with the danger factor. Unfortunately too many residents have grown tired of door to door sales for good reason. I've had people that wouldn't leave and got angry. I had one guy who said he was a reformed gang member from a different city and they needed money for their organization.

That being said there are some HOAs and rabid local residents and politicians that will do anything and everything to keep the neighborhood the way they want.

I think that policy is to prevent licensed or unlicensed contractors from soliciting like that. And they should be more worried where they put the snow which theoretically would illegal dumping if they threw out on to the street.
