Typical of churches in this area, Auchmedden church dates from 1884 and served the residents of local farms and the village of Pennan - the main location for the film 'Local Hero'. Like many churches in this area, it is redundant except for the occasional wedding or funeral.

I envy Europeans and the history it holds..so much of America is so boring architecturally, compared to European architecture.

Actually the original 13 colonies have alot of historical churches and buildings that are similar to those in the UK:)

I worked for some time in Rhode Island and saw a lot of similarities between the architecture there and in Europe.
Although I don't have any religious belief, I do admire church architecture, especially small rural buildings. This first church was near to where I lived in England and dates back almost 1000 years. The second picture is of a newer church, but still has no electricity and is lit by candles.church.jpg

I'm the same regarding church and historical building architecture. I just love the newer church with the candlelight. I'm not a practicing religious person but I can see myself visiting and sitting in this adorable church to relax in this space.
