Pictures From My Smart Bird Feeder

We got our smart bird feeder set up and installed last night. Initially, we only had black sunflower seeds for it, which wasn't doing much for the little sparrows waiting in the bushes. We put some wild bird seed on the grocery order and, apparently, while I was sleeping husband put some in the feeder.

He said the feeder yelled at him! Something like, "Intruder! Go away!" LOL! And took this picture:

I don't know if that's his shoulder, elbow, thumb or the back of his head. πŸ˜…

But this morning when I woke, the phone app had two pictures waiting for me!

So, we, especially me, were all excited and watching our phones for more birds. But they kept flying close and flying away. We did some youtube research and found that - that is common when the feeder is new. The reflective camera, etc. And that the birds will get used to it.

And it seems they are. We got a couple little Red Finches. :) And there was a Cardinal in the bushes but he didn't come over.

Only the one on the right is a Red Finch. There were a couple, a few times, but we were watching husband's camera and didn't think to take a picture. For some reason, his phone app is not sending him auto pictures, like mine is.

This thing is so freaking cool!

That's pretty nifty.
Right? It has all kinds of cool features: auto pictures and record, squirrel alarms, night vision, AI identification of birds, intercom.

Some of them though, we've found out, are only available for an extra fee. Like extra cloud storage for the pictures and videos and AI identification. But we've learned from a youtuber that the AI isn't always reliable and don't need the cloud storage as I can save them to my phone and offload them to my Google storage.

So far, this feeder is a lot of fun. And we've only just got it. :)

The couple of months my wife spent in a nursing home for rehab, she was lucky enough to have had a bird feeder outside her window. Once I started filling it, and the birds found it, it was a great source of entertainment for her.

At our house the local cats keep asking us to put up a feeder, thus far we've resisted. It seems like they have ulterior motives.....

That's really nice. πŸ€— Not the cats, they have evil on their kitty minds.

This is very cool Medusa. I can’t wait to see all the birds you’ll be seeing too. I hope the cardinals come to the feeder. They are so pretty.Medusa’s new birdy toy..
We had to stop feeding the birds due to mice getting in our house. Now the only thing I put up are suet feeders.

Patty, you just reminded me that I forgot to get some suet food for the feeder while I was at Walmart! Dang it! LOL

The Red Finches have found the feeder. :)

And when we checked on returning from Walmart, we noticed that something is eating the sunflower seeds. :)

I have a little 15 sec video of the finches, but I can't figure out how to post it. Does anyone know how to share an mp4 video?

I'm going to check the help thread.

Dropbox

Okay, so uploading to Dropbox worked. I'm just hoping it plays without the need for a Dropbox account.

That's so funny that your bird feeder identified your human husband as a predator. πŸ˜πŸ˜†πŸ˜„
If it was truly smart, it would distinguish humans that live in your home from..... other wild animals. πŸ™ƒπŸ˜Šβ˜ΊοΈπŸ€£

Now, you must give us a size measurement of the feeder ,please!

So that we have a reference,
In order for us to tell tiny finches, who might fit 4 on it,
From a large owl, who would be the only one on it.
β˜ΊοΈπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜πŸ˜„

This would especially help forum bird watchers and experts like myself and @hawkdon
πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Šβ˜ΊοΈ
For us to be able to distinguish a vulture from a songbird. πŸ˜„πŸ˜ƒπŸ₯°

You wrote that something was eating the sunflower seeds.

Our cardinals love the black oil sunflower seeds (BOSS)
They do this amazing thing to shell them.
Hopefully you will attract some, and likely you will.

Other birds will see and follow the ones that already found your feeder so fast!πŸ€©πŸ‘

Well, we did see a Cardinal in the bush next to the feeder earlier today! :)

That's perfect for cardinals and the other birds too. They like to have a nearby shrub for safety, then are happy to come out in full view.
Except when there's an intruder. 😁

The wild birds are smart enough to identify them. 😁 πŸ˜„
