Pie crust and cake frosting

I was at a birthday party for a neighbor a long time ago. Children were invited and, of course, were served cake. Almost all of them scraped off the frosting. I was shocked - that's the best part of the cake! My mom and I used to go to church suppers. Most served pie as a dessert and a fair number of diners ate the filling and left the crust on the plate. You might as well eat pie filling out of a can, then.

Depends on the pie crust. I won’t buy most store bought pies because the crust is so awful. I’ve found a woman who sell great pies. Not sure if that’s good or bad.

Cake should have icing/frosting. I save those bites for the last.

Do Americans not use the expression “that’s the icing on the cake”.

No, I'd eat both.

Here is a big confession: Before I stopped consuming products with palm oil, I'd buy a container of the pre made frostings in the tubs like Pilsbury etc. And if you haven't guessed, I'd eat the frosting straight. It was a rarity and I knew how bad it was, but it was so good. The pesky cake would have just got in the way.

I still do that sometimes. :)

Icing and frosting are both used here, but really icing refers to more of a glaze-like covering, but thicker.
From some old joke book: a young bride who didn't have many cooking skills decided to bake a cake. Later, she ran to her mother in tears, exclaiming "I left the cake in the freezer all day.. but there still isn't any icing on it!":ROFLMAO:
