pineapple in pudding

I've heard not to put pineapple in gelatin because the gelatin won't set. Would this hold true for instant pudding also? Yesterday I made some instant vanilla pudding and to kick it up a bit, decided to put a can of crushed, drained pineapple in it. When mixing it, I noticed it didn't thicken as usual, so I put it in the fridge hoping it would firm up overnight in the cold. No dice. It's about the consistency of cream of mushroom soup, tastes okay, but soupy.

I wouldn't put it in either one especially the pudding. I would have it on the side if I just had to have it. You could always dip it into the pudding. I would not like pineapple in jello. Any other fruit especialy strawberries and berries but not pineapple. But that's just me!.
