The woods & creek not far from home where I'd spend most of the day exploring with my dog and BB gun.

Childhood, actually teen years up to turning 19...…..spending the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at my cousins house. Compared to my awfully strict parents, their parents were very cool. On Saturday nights, their parents would go bowling on a league and we had the house to ourselves. Didn't cause any problems, but sure had a lot of fun and ate snacks. Snacks was something I wasn't allowed at home, nor was choosing to watch something on tv I liked. On Sunday afternoon, my uncle would hook up his ski boat and take us down to the lake/reservoir. They didn't live on a farm, so no getting up at 7AM to feed-water hogs/chickens.

The old shanty up at The Plymouth Reservoir. It was way back in the woods and we would fish bullheads well into the night. No plumbing at all and the outhouse was quite a distance from the camp. There was a sink with a hand pump for water. I have a picture somewhere. Need to find it.

Also..like others...both of my grandparents homes... I sent 2 years living with my paternal grandmother when I was little .

Going to the boating lake on a Saturday morning with my brother and sisters and pals, we couldn't afford the boats but we had fun just watching those who could... also every now and again we'd go to the public swimming baths... oooh it wasn't even heated but we'd come out , teeth chattering and just have enough money to buy a bag of steaming hot chips to share between all of us kids

Furry why do you have a March 25 2011 date written under your post!!!?

What Places Do You Remember Fondly From Childhood?

I grew up at my grandparent’s home
Slept at my folk’s place, but most waking moments were up the hill at Gramma’s

The neat thing was, when I wasn’t there, they all thought I was at the other place

I could roam the woods dawn ‘til dark

And the woods was my favorite place

…..not much has changed

Another vote for my grandparent's place.

My grandmother's farm was dangerous enough to be interesting and safe enough that I never worried.

For me, a small measure of independence, privacy, and adventure was more important than an actual place.

My grandpa's farm. I remember picking fresh cherry tomatoes and eating tone of them -- fresh corn -- fireflies and sleeping out on the big wide veranda-type covered porch. I also remember (NOT fondly) chiggers from rolling around in the grass.

I grew up on Lake Huron and spent much of my time on/in the water. Bought my first boat at age 12. It was a 12-foot wooden water scooter that set me back $10 with my dad's hand-me-down 5 hp Scott-Atwater outboard motor. Looking back, kids who grew up on the lake must have developed a huge tolerance for the cold, because we were usually swimming by mid-May and didn't stop until mid-autumn when our parents forced us to, incorporating various references to "blue lips".

Many happy lake and river related memories from those days.
