Placing items in people's coffins

My husband is going to be buried in his kilt and associated gear - sporran, sgian dubh, etc. He keeps saying he wants a Viking funeral and wants me to put him in the canoe, set it on fire and push him out into the loch. I'm guessing that could be illegal. :D

3 friends were attending another friend's funeral. The first friend went up to the casket, took out his wallet and placed a $10 bill in the casket. He returned to the other two and informed them he owed the friend $10 and wanted to repay him. The second friend went up and also placed a $10 bill in the casket. The third friend went up, opened his checkbook and wrote a check for $30 and took the two tens!!

When my husband died his grandchildren placed different things in the coffin, at first I was kinda taken back by it, but decided that it did not hurt anything and like others said,it help them deal with their papa dying.

When you are cremated as I will be you do not have a coffin or casket (we call the either). You probably will have picture at a memorial service and sometimes the urn with the ashes.
Really? Are they just going to chuck you in then? Here, we most certainly do have a coffin, and which people see( although it is closed) at the church/memorial service.

When my niece was killed in a road accident aged just 15, her parents and grandparents put in a couple of her favourite things, her diary, and some pictures.. she didn't have a mobile phone..

Yep, just "chuck" ole Jim and bbq him. It's actually a pyre in a stone building. Conditioning for hell.

Many people here do not have the casket at the memorial service. Frequently the memorial is held weeks after the death of the person. And in the case of cremation, many times the casket is more like a cardboard box. Why pay for a fancy wooden casket you are just going to burn up?

My brother's ashes where in a plastic baggie with a twisty on the top. This was placed in a 8X8 square plastic box. A hole was dug down, under my parents marker, and he was buried there. My wife and I will be buried there also. The cemetery only allows one marker per grave, so our names will be added to the top of my parents marker.

I don't think its a matter of 'belief', just whatever someone wants to do, that would be meaningful and a comfort to them on the loss of their loved one.
