Ploughman's lunch..

Much ado about nothing!

We often have ploughmans when we eat out... they're substantial but certainly not enough for more than 2 people... the cheeses are usually nothing more than a sliver. The pickles are in tiny containers... the french bread tends to be large so you end up filling up with carbs..

Beer, bread, and cheese have been combined in the English diet since antiquity, and have been served together in pubs for centuries. However, the specific term "ploughman's lunch" is believed to date from the 1950s, when the Cheese Bureau, a marketing body, began promoting it in pubs as a way to increase the sales of cheese, which had recently ceased to be rationed.

There are various references in literature to farm workers eating bread and cheese, often with ale or cider, for their lunch.

In the original picture above, what is it that is in between the cheese and the egg (below the grapes in the picture)?
