Pneumonia shot.

Like the flu shot the pneumonia shot is highly recommended for folks over 65.....I can't be positive (CRS) but I think I recall getting a flu shot a few years back but I'm honestly not sure, hopefully the grocery store pharmacy where I normally get my flu shots will have a record.

Apparently there are two different types of pneumonia vaccine and it's recommended that a person get both but again if I remember correctly you're supposed to get them one year apart and in order;

First the PCV13 / Prevnar 13 vaccine and then second the PPSV23 / Pneumovax 23 vaccine.

I plan on getting my flu shot the week of Halloween like always and it is recommended that you wait at least two weeks in between the flu and pneumonia shots so I'm going by the pharmacy later this morning to try and determine which pneumonia shot I've already had (if any) and get one if my record shows that I need one.

I plan on getting one regardless but I assume that the pneumonia shot is covered / free under Medicare like the flu shot ?

Anyone else getting or had a pneumonia shot ?......did you get both vaccines ?

We've both had our pneumonia shots and don't need it any more. Due to my upcoming laser cataract surgery this next week, we both decided to get our Senior Double Dose Flu Shot a week ago this past Wednesday. Wife still works and there are co-workers that instead of calling in sick, come into work during the flu season. We both want to at least be somewhat protected, and so far, the shot has worked. If we do by chance get a little cough or runny nose, we take an OTC flu med and that ends it.

Medicare paid for both our pneumonia and flu shots. Before I got Medicare, would get the flu shot at the VA.

I went by the pharmacy this morning and their records show that I received the PCV13 vaccine last Nov. so I've got to wait about 60 days or so till I can get the PPSV23 vaccine......I've got it marked on the calendar.

I find it strange that all the members of a seniors home get the flu shot and yet, that's where all the outbreaks are common. Come flu season and they usually ban visitors until the outbreaks are over.

So then? Can we assume that the bug is brought in from outside?

Had my shot years ago and its good for seven....gotta keep a check on the next date due....having my flu shot tomorrow....special vaccine given for 65 and older, cant remember name of it....and this time, no in the arm for me....it will be like the old days in the bum.....my arm was so sore for almost two weeks with my last shot of the Shingles booster, also for 65 and over, ugh :(

I'm such a chicken when it comes to shots. I don't have much muscle on my arms and it always hurts for about a month after.

I talked my doctor into giving me the nasal spray instead. So far it works.

The staff can bring it in, not just visitors.

I know someone who got pneumonia a month after their shot. There were other variables but it didn't prevent pneumonia. But that's the thing it's frequently other variables and behavior that contribute to many pneumonias, especially with young people many don't know how to be sick or do stuff to prolong or intensify an illness. If you feel tired or in the beginning stages of a cold don't carry on as usual. At least get a little extra sleep and simplify the diet taking away intestinal track ammunition for one day. The body can go weeks without food but you need fluids. Also note that pneumonia came after several days in the hospital so between germs and being bed ridden which allows fluids to settle it was a perfect recipe for a case.

I'm up to date with the past ones & my Medicare Advantage plan doesn't pay for the new high dose so I'm not getting it but my pharmacist said it isn't that much better anyway.

I went and got the PPSV23 vaccine shot a little bit ago....hopefully I'm better covered now than I was without the shots..

No shots here, flu shot about 40 yrs ago and no others. Keep my immune system strong with my 25+ yrs of supplements which I prefer to support vs pharma and their drugs which are toxic anyway.

Good luck, pharma needs customers. Made it good as I reached a healthy 80.
