Poached eggs in the microwave…

I’ve seen several ways online how to poach eggs in the microwave. I’ve never had much luck trying most of these. Not cooked, hard center, etc. Does anyone have a sure fire way you do this the right way.

I don't have a microwave but recently I bought a stainless steel egg poacher and I love it. It is heavy when you have all the components on it. But it doesn't take long and is easy to use.

I hae the same problem as you Pappy.. it's hit and miss... I've tried so called microwave poachers but the eggs always come out rubbery and overcooked middles.. so I find this method works the best...

  • Microwave the water:
Put 1/4 cup water in an 8-ounce glass measuring cup or sturdy, microwave-safe mug.
Microwave on high power for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until the water is steaming (not rapidly boiling).

  • Add the egg, pierce the yolk, and cover:
Crack the egg into the water. Gently slide a toothpick into the yolk, keeping it intact. Cover the measuring cup or mug with a small miscrowave safe plate or plastic wrap

Cook for 30 second incriments

I've never tried the microwave for poached eggs... but will use it for quick, scrambled eggs.
I sometimes go for coddled eggs, but not in the microwave...

I poach an egg in the microwave nearly every morning. My method is: pour a small amount (approx 1/8 cup) of apple cider vinegar into a coffee cup, add generous 1/2 cup of water, mix well, crack an egg into the cup (smaller cup with semi-rounded bottom-no sharp corners), microwave for 60 seconds at 70% power. Eggs are variable so sometimes i have to add or subtract a bit of cooking time*.

*Note: I use JUMBO nest fresh eggs. Smaller or less fresh eggs require adjustments. You have to tinker a bit to get it right. In a weeks time I will still have a egg or two that won't be perfect.
