Pockets

Pockets in clothing are essential for me. Nothing better than deep pockets. Sometimes I won’t buy something because of the lack of pockets.

Read an article that to save money some manufacturers are cutting down on pockets. Don’t know if it’s true but it would save a little bit of time when the clothing is being produced.

The one item that could do without a pockets is the small one on ladies t-shirts. What purpose does it serve? You sure can’t put anything in it.

Agree completely... I hope that it isn't true about the removal of pockets....

My feelings are mixed when it comes to pockets.

When it comes to pants, I wear slacks, and I don't want back pockets. Side/slash pockets are fine.

Haven't worn jeans in years, decades in fact, because I'm pear-shaped and jeans simply do not fit me, though member OneEyed, recommended a couple of brand names for me to try, but with jeans I was always okay with front and back pockets in my younger days.

As for shirts/tops, I prefer no pockets. My opinion of pockets, the more pockets, the sloppier the look.

Back in the day had I owned t's with a pocket, being the busy mom that I was I probably would have kept a set of diaper pins in the pocket, today, I want a clean look, and while I don't wear t-shirts, the tops I wear I want them to look clean (no pockets).

@Jules -
I always appreciated the watch pocket that my levi's had, back when I carried a pocket watch. Your topic reminds me of the pal who was always slow to buy the next round.....he earned the nick-name "Old Short arms & Deep pockets"!

I never even open the stitches that my jeans back pockets have, but I feel I must have generously sized front pockets to put my phone in. I wish phones weren't quite so big now. I get a lot of use out of shirt pockets only on the work shirts I wear when doing yard work, and I like that that type of shirt has a way to secure the shirt pockets (on some shirts velcro and on some zippers).

I will not buy pants without pockets. Pockets are safer than purses. I have walked around with $22,000 in my pockets. Would never have put it in a purse. No one really expects me to be dumb enough to carry 22K in my pockets, so that helps.

Just remembered I also carried $28,000 on streets of NY and went into a subway with my mother as extra guard.

Leave my pockets alone I say!

Unless it’s a woman’s dress coat, all fall/winter coats should come with lots of interior pockets for security. Pockets are the first thing DH checks for in his coats too. If I’m not carrying a purse, I like to put my phone on one side and CC case on the other.

Jules, i agree those tiny single pockets on ladie's tee-shirts are useless!
I think, with the current way of things and inflation, we will see less pockets, cuffs, collars; anything considered adornment from clothing manufacturers.
The one thing i wish the clothing designers would do is put a double layer of cloth from the shoulder seam to cover the women's breasts on shirting. That way, we can wear shirts without these stupid BRAS, and no one would notice! (maybe double pockets would do the same thing!
Don't you rip your bra off the moment you enter the house?

Shirts must have a pocket for me, when I smoked it was
for the cigarettes, now it is for the glasses/spectacles.

Over here the cheaper shirts have no pockets, they started
to disappear last year or the year before, I thought that they
were trying to save a few pennies, but for some strange reason
the prices went up!

I don't wear any pocket when I wear the Kilt though.

Mike.

O/h is the same Mike..all his business shirts have to have at least one breast pocket...

worked at a charter school in camden, nj... rough town. the 2 pre-k teachers came to school together every day. then on afternoon, while walking back to car around 4;00... guy came up behind them , pointed a GUN and demanded purses. that was probably the last time i carried a purse on a regular basis. as i head toward my door to leave, i give my self a "pocket" pat down... phone, wallet, keys, glasses... check. glasse on chains... the funkier the better.

@Gaer that is so true. I'm not very good at multitasking in my old age but I can get my shoes and my bra off all at the same time.
Two front pockets on a blouse is a wonderful thing.
I also make sure the hubby has a lot of pockets because what he can't carry ends up in my purse.

I remember my mom getting so frustrated over having to always clean-out the pockets of my dads work pants on laundry day.

She'd fish-out nuts, bolts, nails and washers... receipts out of the back pockets, there'd be dirt and debris caught-up in the rolled-up cuffs, and there atop the washing machine sat a pile of this and that collected by dad over the course of the week!

Funny now, but not funny at the time.
