Does anyone listen to these on a daily basis or while driving in the car? I never do but they're being posted in the news more instead of the visual written article, which I much prefer over listening only..... (a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically)

Not daily, but regularly, several times a week, and when I still drove I used to listen in the car.

The BBC recently introduced a new app, BBC Sound on which nearly all of their output can be downloaded.

Don't know if it's available in the US, copyright may be a problem.

I subscribe to about 30 of them and listen to them while working. Some of them are daily, others weekly, and some come out when the podcaster feels like it. Most of the ones I listen to are tech related but there are some general ones I like also. If you enjoy the news then NPR does have several good ones. You can find good podcasts for anything that match your interests ranging from your hobbies to individual podcasts about TV shows you might enjoy watching.
