Stories of men in their seventies being allowed to be an armed supplement for police forces reveals a serious weakness in our system with no universal standards and training. The mistaken shooting recently of a running suspect makes me realize that this is not a job for geezers, and I expect agreement on this matter or you will have to answer to Cookie...
 

Answer to Cookie..........geezers........well.

It will get to the stage where young fit humans will think hard before joining up in the police or army.It will then be difficult to maintain the required levels of staff.

No not intimated, and not likely to offend or provoke, however that is what is going to happen in the future when they want people to enlist in police or army. Too many guns to contend with, too many do gooders and too many wars flaring across the globe.
Why should a person of sound mind and body want to put themselves into very dangerous positions.

NO... because they have to rely on shooting..... They wouldn't be able to conduct police work as it should be... severing spines and choking to death.. Now that's work for a much younger man. [/sarcasm] :p
 
Cookie threatened to beat me up yesterday so she could be. And whatever happened to the cop on the beat? We need to go back to those days, but no officer wants to walk an inner city beat and the suburbs are not conducive to it...
 
I'm saying that you need a swat team for beat work in some inner cities, and a lot of the burbs have private policing. The old days are gone forever...
 
But aren't we going to have robots doing police work in the future? And robots killing robots in all the multiple wars the U.S. just has to be involved in? Aren't we???

Just another problem the "States Rights" folks need to answer for.
I am a fortunate to live in a progressive state the Sheriff just can't make his nephew or uncle a Deputy because he needed a job. Every Law Enforcement officer in NYS must have at least an MVP (municipal, village, police) certificate. Most police departments require a minimum AAS in criminal justice as a prerequisite to hire.
The State Police and most fire departments are the only agencies I know of that rightfully are allowed to have mandatory retirement policies.

Still getting gun free zones confused I see, and how gun purchases are made. Just another reminder for purposely short memories, those areas with the highest crime rates have the strictest gun laws.

And the the strongest supporters of gun control have their own body guards. What I love about New York -- is they get the tax payers to pay for it.

No doubt there should be a qualification procedure, but your statement runs very close to age discrimination, which is a protected group under ferderal law.
 
The were standards in the Tulsa case but they were purposely bypassed. And the chase/incident didn't kill the 73 year old deputy, it killed the suspect.

It's not just old geezers, around here part time cops are frequently used. I'm just as worried about a cop who just works one or two days a week. There's one community where the part-timers basically do nothing but traffic tickets-aggressively. Most speed traps tend to be at rush hour Mon thru Friday. In the small towns where these part timers are used on weekends the greatest chance of getting a ticket is Saturday and Sunday afternoon. They're trying to rack statistics for a hire or promotion to full time. Also it might not mean anything but over the last there have been several incidents involving murder and part-time cops.

A lot of these small towns need to go to a county or state police service but they maintain small departments for power. There are departments around here that have less than a 1/2 dozen full timers but the town refuses to default to neighboring towns or county for emergency services.
 
A lot of officers in smaller communities are on food stamps, and state supplemental health plans because of budget constraints . The use of out of county resources results in back billing for the services. The privatization of these resources under a unified police and fire authority solves a lot of the problems but is blocked in a lot of areas by the socialist mentality.

You don't know what you are talking about. The state with the strictest gun laws is Calif., they have a population of over 38 million their murder rate is 4.6 per 100k. Arizona which has a population of 7 million has a rate of 5.4. AZ you can even carry concealed WITHOUT a permit. These figures are from 2013.

Wrong again Jim but glad to see you got out of the recliner. Mass. Actually has the strictest gun control laws, and comparing by states it still skews the states toward the population centers, is meaningless. I will have to admit though the murder rate has gone down in Chicago, since their gun control carry laws were struck down last summer by a Federal court. It will be interesting to see what diversionary tactics are used by the antis now that Washington DC gun control laws have been ruled unconstitutional. Some more hand wringing stats. Darn

I have some trouble following what you post. I don't own a recliner? Show me a credible link to Mass. having the strictest gun laws? You need to back up what you have to say or stay on the porch.
 
Oh sorry your picture looks like an easy chair. You need to become more familiar with the laws of each state , a little more , and understand that the term strictest gun laws is definitional. While cal. Gun laws have severe laws as to carry, transfer has more meaning in the BATF and Federsl since. Check out the Calgun and NRA web sites.

Here we go, when confronted with fact you argue with "definitions". It's just the old "shell game". Convolution the name of the game. I choose not to play. I posted data and links. They stand as factual! Game over. BTW ever see a hassock before?
