Do you use any form of public transportation regularly? If so, what do you like or dislike about it?

Do you pay with cash, credit card, or do you use an app and set up an account with a payment method on the phone?

Been many years since I did, back then mostly paid cash.

Public transportation is available here with the average size city buses & the ones that are dual length. Ridership isn't great more often than not the buses I see have only a few riders. But that doesn't deter politicians from spending tax money.

While the RTC does not yet have an estimate of revenue loss, the offices of U.S. Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto announced Friday that up to $112 million will be awarded to public transportation.

We have SunRail here, a rapid-transit train that runs between the suburbs and downtown. The only time I ride it is when one of the young'uns wants to ride the choo-choo.

It only runs weekdays. I'd actually use it if it ran on weekends to go to festivals in downtown Orlando or Winter Park. It would be good not to have to find parking places.

Of course, it loses money like a bleeding corpse.

We don't have public transportation (bus, light rail, or train) because it was voted down every time on the ballot. I use Uber/Lyft about 8 times a year to/from the airport. When visiting NYC about 3 or 4 times a year, I get around by the subway paying with a MetroCard. However, starting with my next trip in the fall, I will pay with my Costco contactless Visa card.

I never drive into London..it would be complete Madness, so I always get the train in and use tubes to get around the city ....In London we can use an Oyster card which is a city of London transport card which means it can be used on every available transport in the city (except cabs).. but despite living on the peripherals of the city we're not able to have Oyster cards.. but the word is we're going to be able to have them from next year.. so we'll see.

In the meantime I use my debit card usually.. to buy the train ticket, which also covers the cost of all the tubes I'll use that day... I get a third off because I'm a state pensioner and carry a Trainline discount card ( i always feel a bit of a fraud tbh).. but anyway I'm entitled to it and so I can get a return ticket into the city, (20 miles)... and travel on all the tubes around the city.. and it costs about £10...or £12.

I drive myself or ride with a friend. In case of car trouble I have a road service, etc. Then I would first call a friend or relative and I do have the Uber app but haven't needed to use it, fingers crossed.

The city bus is free this summer but doesn't come anywhere near my house. It's decades since I've been on one.

Used a few times when the place i want to go has horrible parking situations...... but in general the system here is not very efficient and the routes often have a long walk on one end or the other.
As many others here have said the tax dollars pour into it but ridership does not increase and half empty buses are seen all over.

we rode a new train being built yet other then some homeless sleeping we were the only paying passengers.
their system of fares also discourages ridership if prepaying on a card a trip is 3.50 if paying in real money ( they do not take debit/ credit) $7.00 and no transfers between routes.....

I notice in mANY help wanted ads they do NOT consider public transportation as reliable ways to get to work.

I used Uber a few times last year when I was having medical procedures done and wasn't allowed to drive myself home. So three round trips total. Have the app on my phone, charges hit my debit card, easy peasy. There is bus service in the county but they do not have a route within 4 or 5 miles of me.

p.s. - I voted "do not use" since it is so infrequent.

No bus in my town but available in the larger cities once you get there. We know have train services to Dallas but I have never used one. I don't know if they go into Fort Worth. I know my son and his wife have used them to go into downtown Dallas for an event. I would never use one alone but I would go with them if needed.

I have used bus service in cities like San Antonio. They have a very good downtown service. You buy a ticket and can use it all day to get to various venues.

I only use public transportation when I travel, instead of renting a car. Taxi is my first choice and Uber my second choice. With Uber, I can use the app and pay for it before the driver arrives.

Since I don't drive I've always taken local bus if I'm going to a store that is too far for me to walk
The 1 bus route I like is down the street from my apt, during the week the bus comes every 20 min,the fare is reasonable, $2 1-way,$4 round trip. If I choose I can buy all day pass $5
I try to take the bus when some high school kids aren't on it because in the morning they can be obnxious Once in awhile if the bus gets crowded, a kid will give up their seat for me
I've never taken Uber or Lyft

Right now I don't use any but when my car dies I will use taxis. I haven't tried Uber or Lyft. I'm frightened to after hearing bad things about them.
I have the same concerns about Uber and Lyft, I think it's just like taking a ride from a stranger in their personal car.....but, I may just be too old school and overly cautious, don't know. I used to hitchhike as a teen, and I was lucky nothing bad happened, now I'm older and somewhat wiser, lol.

My husband has a good friend who lives out of state. He always uses Uber and has had them pick him up at our house numerous times. He's completely comfortable with them.

When I was in the doctor's office for cataract surgery, I was talking to this woman our age and she was contacting an Uber on her phone, because her husband was about to come out of surgery. She said they drove them there and will take them home after they stop at a restaurant across the street for lunch. She was happy with Lyft, and much more comfortable using her smart phone than I am.

I imagine I may need to use them someday, but I prefer to use a regular Taxi, like a Yellow Cab. Truth is, I don't see too many of those around, maybe more noticeable at the airport and downtown, don't know.

Interesting to know what other folks here are using. Thanks to all who have shared their experiences on this thread. :)

My car is parked 20 feet from my front door. The nearest Publix super market is .8 miles away. Other stores are not far away. Why on earth would I want to mess with public transit? I have been retired 26 years, I don't commute.

One thing we do extremely well in the cities of the UK is pubic transportation.. and millions use it every day..it's a very safe way to travel. Homeless people are not permitted to use the trains as somewhere to sleep...

Currently, it's the bus with bus pass. After groceries done, especially if it's the time of the month where we buy our soda quota, we need to return home by taxi.

We both love riding on the trains. However, as we have a kitten we can't leave for too long, we're considering taking a day tour with our own bus lines. They're offering inexpensive ones. Might just wait in August when it might be less touristy lol!

Haven't had a car since 2011 and last vandalism incident. Oh my Goddess how I miss driving...

If I can save enough, I might get ourselves some Dutch style bikes... Or scooters/mopeds, maybe undecided yet!
