So, I Just had 4th hernia repair, laparoscopic robotic. Divinci machine. I Was cautioned by the surgeons to limit exercise a few weeks to just walking or stairs, no bike, repetitive, not lifting over 4 kg to avoid damaged to the repair.

Interested in tales of recent hernia surgery especially laparoscopic or robotic, your experience, recovery, exercise, eg recurrence or mesh issues?

Many thanks

jon

My hubby had a hernia operartion 5 years ago now , after having problems 35 years previous....
.
not forgetting he is pre stroke...
.
god what a performance, they tried pushing it back for 3 days , so very painful for him..bless him
then decided to do it , after getting his warfarin level proper , the next morning , they got him dressed and up, asked me to bring his wheelchair in, and just sent us home, no ambulance or anything ...

that was the worse experience of my life

i had to ask a passer-by, to help me in the car with him...
and needed to phone my hairdresser to help me indoors with him...
and we have had nothing but trouble since !!!!

keep your hernias i say !!!

Medical care is the pits today. :(
A friend had knee replacement surgery. They tried to send her home the next day. She already had Cerebral Palsy & had balance problems.
She was barely conscious & couldn't stand or walk. When I visited her, her doctor came in & I argued with him about sending her home so soon. He tried to sell me on the "We don't want her to get an infection" B.S.
I said, "I've known people who spent a month in the hospital & never got any infection. And most hospital-acquired infections are caused by doctors who don't wash their hands from patient to patient. I realize you want to get another medicare-paying patient in the bed, but sending her home now would be disastrous."

He left the room in a huff. I spoke to the head honcho & they extended her stay 2 more days.

And most hospital-acquired infections are caused by doctors who don't wash their hands from patient to patient.
When I was hospitalized here with sepsis in 2019, (one other patient in the room....we were 'separated' by a curtain), the other guy, 'older', who had fallen and hurt his head developed some sort of contagious condition while hospitalized.......the nurses inspected him while wearing 'hazmat suits'...took them off and dumped them in a garbage can right near my bed.

(One laugh my supervisor & I had, in one of my 'awake & aware' moments, was when he thought that the female doctor who visited him had featured in a porn movie. He, quite seriously, told her that this was no way to lead her life, and she should better herself.

Passing through 'my' section afterward, smirks were exchanged.)

I had the laparoscopic procedure done years ago, and after a long mending period for the pain in the abdominal area, I eventually made it back to normal. For certain movements I got push-back from my body, so I advise to move ahead slowly and lightly and your body will tell you when to quit. Even today, I'm mindful of what I do.
