Proactive Vs. Reactive Personality

My Educational background is heavy on the sciences side as well as finance. I don't understand what seems to be considerable negative comments and attitude toward today's medical procedures like testing leading to more testing, quality of life etc.

I am a proactive personality and when diagnosed set out to learn all I could about the condition and the various options. I am personally a big believer in medical tests (all kinds) and believe they are responsible for early detection of many serious and life threatening conditions which can then hopefully be successfully treated and improve as well as extend the quality of life. Ignoring symptoms and sticking our heads in the sand because we don't want to be inconvenienced or disrupt our quality of life is certainly a choice, but one that could shorten our life span.

Despite being a cancer survivor and having my gall bladder removed as well as my thyroid gland, a bilateral hernia operation, and diagnosed in 2007 with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma (Waldenstrom's Disease (currently in remission)Oh---a bit of cartilage was removed from both left and right knees at different times"During and after these medical conditions my quality of life was pretty good with extensive travel, scuba diving, racquet ball, golf etc. Here I am now as a 80 year old still enjoying a good quality of life and having out lived a number of my reactive peers. Enough for now, time for a glass of wine and then a swim.
