Probably my favorite Jimi Hendrix concert video

There are few live videos of Hendrix from their early pre Woodstock, Experience period just as there are few of any rock bands from that era. The below 11 minute Red House has a surprisingly clean live recorded sound. Interesting is the obvious savvy English audience how they are so well mannered, mod dressed, quiet, well except for 3 most animated guys stage left near the policeman. In contrast, his live outdoor sunny breezy 1970 Maui concert that consisted of many bleach haired, shirtless, obviously stoned surfers starts off with the crowd yet to be convinced, rather reserved but soon lots are energetic up on their feet pseudo dance swaying much like I would see in San Francisco venues during that period.

Jimi for ever Red House Live Royal Albert February 24 , 1969 VIDEO

I don't think the OP meant this as an JH fan-site post, but David777's posted video is really interesting. The audience reaction, or lack thereof, is inexplicable to me. Perhaps they were closely studying his fabulous range of techniques. Maybe they were bored. For my take, this piece sent my brain into interpretive dance mode. My body just won't oblige anymore.

Hendrix's Band of Gypsies is by far, my favorite Hendrix album, which is why I love this video. The funny thing about that album is, he recorded a live album just to fulfill a contractual obligation. That's why there are no on-stage antics... no showboating, just playing and singing the best he could while in front of an audience.

I wonder if there's a video of the entire concert.

I googled it: https://www.google.com/search?q=hen...AG3BJIBAzQuMpgBAKABAcgBCMABAQ&sclient=gws-wiz

Not sure if any of the later links are complete versions and don't have time to check today. If you find any, please let us know! It seems there are a lot of 'home-mixes,' at least.

Interesting how fast youtube deleted the link I posted above for apparent copyright issues they apparently hadn't noticed until forum members here suddenly began watching it. The below is the same live Royal Albert Hall recording but without the video, just the very clean audio track and a canned photo of Jimi.

My favorite Hendrix album is the double album, Electric Ladyland, I was given in 1968 with all its jazzy studio work. His tune I enjoy dancing most to is Hey Joe that has an accelerating between note drum beat. The following 1967 video has a few glimpses of the English staid young mod audience.

I did that Google search and it turns out that there's a documentary about the Band of Gypsies with more rare footage of Hendrix's 1970's Fillmore concerts. I'm going to look into that later.

I'm glad that I got to watch it, then. I have heard that some hate-crime videos are left up for prolonged periods unless someone complains. Interesting priorities, eh?

Hendrix was before my time. I heard he was a pretty good guitarist. I played the violin for almost 30 years and then took up playing the fiddle.

Do you know the difference between a violin and a fiddle? Give up?
It’s ok to spill beer on a fiddle. Go ahead. You can laugh.

Also, the bridge is flatter on a fiddle. :)

Life is so different, that which some love, others cannot appreciate. Hendrix just grates on my ears, but if I said that Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and so many other crooners, along with jazz artists like Count Basie, Bennie Goodman and Lester Young, throw in the big band sound and all the Jimi Hendrix fans would be reaching for the aspirins.

True, but I have a Stentor, so it’s fairly easy. I was able to buy a really decent used Cecilia at the convention this past weekend. I had a really nice Stentor years ago, but I had it stolen and never replaced it. Do you play? I don’t play very much anymore.

Whoops. Off topic. My bad. I’m outta’ here.

I play guitar and used to play in some bluegrass jams with fiddle players and banjo players. It was a lot of fun. It's been probably ten years since I did that.

" I heard he was a pretty good guitarist." --- He was a creative genius, in my opinion. It wasn't what he played, but the vast multitude of techniques he mastered. You could turn off the audio and still find the performance fascinating (-:

I took lessons for 6 months before admitting I had absolutely no talent, which was confirmed by my guitar teacher. /-;
