problems with pdf

This is the second time recently that I've received a pdf by email, need to complete it and return by email.
It doesn't seem there's any way to do it!!! The pdf's will not copy/paste into a document, will not save as a document that I can type into, and even though a tech-savvy family member said Microsoft Edge will provide an edit option I didn't find any.

All I could do with the previous pdf was print it out, complete it by hand (a difficult process, and my handwriting is too light and difficult for recipient to read), then scan it and email it. It didn't give an option for the scanned image to be saved as a document.
Current pdf, though, requires a huge amount of info to be filled in, and there's no way I can complete it by hand.

I've heard there are programs to convert pdf to documents (.odt specifically), but I'd be afraid to download anything without knowing its source considering my problems with computer getting hacked.

Help!!!!!

When I retired and could not use the Microsoft Office and Adobe tthat I used at work, I swallowed hard and bought both programs. Office was not bad at about $100, but Adobe was $300 for the full suite. But Adobe has a function called Typewriter that I use all the time to fill out forms. If I get a paper form to fill out, I scan it into a PDF, and then fill it out. Same if the form is downloaded to me or e-mailed to me.

You could try "Adobe Acrobat Reader", it is for reading
PDF, and you can fill in a form with it Janice, plus it is
free from the Adobe web site.

Janice you said you have Microsoft Edge? I have that. I can't download anything except through the Microsoft store unless I go in & set it to allow me to DL it from any source. Is that why you can't install it??
