Protein bars. Have you tried any?

I don't know what is on the market now, so I can't recommend one,
but it's a very good thing to look for, and I hope you find one.

I know that years ago, when I had something like that, I found it very helpful for keeping myself getting some protein and nutrients, quickly when I needed it.

I don't eat them, but aren't the Atkins bars low sugar/high protein?
Well, I just looked at the labels. They are deceiving. They are low sugar, but (like most bars) high carbohydrate. The carbohydrate is included in the sugar because 100% of carbohydrate is quickly converted to sugar when you eat it.

Some of the Aldi/Millville/Elevation bars advertise one gram of sugar per bar and they are usually a little cheaper than some other bars.

Also, some of the Atkins products are low or no added sugar.

I used to use some of them but decided I would be better off eating food instead of candy. Have a bowl of microwave oatmeal, a hard-boiled egg, nuts, cheese, etc...

I do still buy a package of Atkins peanut butter cups as a treat on the candy holidays like Halloween and Easter.

Good luck!

They have protein shakes too. I do those in snack pinch at work.
If you don't mind me asking, which brand of shake do you use?

I tried protein bars, tasted like sugered sawdust with nuts. On long regional runs we had to have something to rejuvenate ourselves if we ran out of food and there were no 7-Elevens near the tracks so a wise old hogger told me about Boost.

I prefer vanilla.

I'm hypoglycemic. My blood sugar flucutates all over the place. I have to have something every couple of hours. I use Balance bars. There are a number of flavors. They are really good. One bar contains 12 g of sugar, 13 g of protein. It says it has a low glycemic index of 34. It's gluten free and has 7 vitamins and minerals. They come in a 6 bar box. The prices fluctuate from site to site. Don't buy them at Walmart. They are too high. You can get them at Puritan Pride, Vitacost, Swanson's and Allstar Health. Here's a link to them at Allstar Health: Balance Bars. This last order I paid $5.49 a box. They really help my stablize my blood sugar. After I eat one the jitters go away. I usually eat them a little chunk at a time and parcel one bar out through the day.
