When you adopt a new dog from an animal shelter, and he realizes that he has a "forever" home, then be prepared for some overwhelming appreciation. Regrettably, he gained 20 pounds in half a year. Having three Boxer dogs at age 87, it's too much work feeding them separately and placing him on a diet.
