Purell is now facing the second class-action lawsuit for making unsubstantiated claims on their labels with regards to the effectiveness of their widely-used hand sanitizer. The label on their hand sanitizer claims that their product kills 99% of all disease-causing germs, which according to recent research is not true in the slightest. And as people continue being panic-stricken over the coronavirus pandemic, the need to use sanitizer that is actually effective is greater than ever. The label also makes a claim that one squirt of Purell is more effective than two of its competitors' products, another unsubstantiated claim.
The label claims that there is scientific evidence to that effect, which the lawsuit says doesn’t exist. The lawsuit was filed on March 13 in and marks the second time that customers have accused the legendary sanitizer brand and its parent company GOJO of being misleading with their labels and their product claims.
"These claims lack a scientific basis, rendering the affirmative misrepresentations misleading," the lawsuit says. The suit represents four people in California, Michigan, Massachusetts and Oregon, and was filed in the Northern District of Ohio.
