Was researching olive oils and one bit of advice was that if it tasted like crayon wax, it wasn't good.
Thing is, I don't know what crayon wax tastes like.

Those of you who eat crayons ... can ya help a fella out ?? Thank you

OH, and I use California Ranch Extra Virgin Cold Pressed
Or Great Value Extra Virgin Cold Pressed when Walmart is out of California Ranch

Just try a crayon! Kids do it all the time and they survive! I got some chewable antacids recently just to mix-up my antacid regime and guess what one of the ingredients is in those? Carnuba wax. Put it on furniture, buff your car with it, or put a little in your stomach. It's fine.

In the olden days when people harvested honey themselves from beehives, do you think they were super-careful about picking out every bit of beeswax before they ate the honey? No. A little bit of beeswax won't hurt anyone. Same with crayons.

Usually, when oils and butter go bad, they will have a bad smell.

Smell Test
The first and easiest way to determine if your olive oil has gone bad is to give it a smell test. Fresh olive oil has a distinct, fruity aroma, while rancid olive oil has a sour, musty odor. If your olive oil smells off or has a strong odor that is different from what you are used to, it is likely that it has gone bad.
