Question About Installing A Deadbolt

I have a steel door on the sunroom with just a regular key lock. I would like to have a deadbolt installed but wonder if the vibration involved with drilling into the steel door could somehow break the glass window.

Any suggestions?

I doubt it. The glass used in the door is probably made in such a way as to resist any shock of any kind since doors get bumped and slammed all the time. There is no real vibration to speak of when drilling anyway.

I posed this question to my husband who is in construction. He said if it’s not a storm door, just a regular exterior door, there shouldn’t be any problem and don’t worry about it.

If it’s an actual storm door, there wouldn’t be enough room to drill into it to install the deadbolt because the bore hole would be 2 and 1/8 inches for a deadbolt.

I would CALL a couple of lock-smiths..

That way...you will really know.🤗

My front and back door are metal. The back door has a window. I have deadbolts on both doors. You might want to consider if someone can break the window and reach the knob on your lock. I have a lock that requires a key on the inside rather than a knob. I leave the key in it when I am home and remove it when I am away so that no one could break the window and reach the lock. It has bars over they window so they could not climb in even if they broke it.
