Question For Denture Wearers Do You Take Them Out At Night?

I"m thinking of cartoons and pictures of dentures in a glass of water on the night stand.

What do you do?

I have a partial plate and I soak it at night but in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. I learned to do that after a dog of my mom's long ago got a hold of one of my partials years ago and ate part of it. lol

I use the medicine cabinet too. Dentures are too expensive to be chew toys and the dogs sleep with us.

I have had a full set of dentures since age 23 having had most of them knocked out and the remainders removed. That was58 years ago and I have only had two full sets in all that time. I have always gone to sleep at night leaving my dentures in my mouth. Never have had a problem eating the toughest of meat, corn on the cob or having a problem slipping out like some folks. No problem with tooth decay either.

Of course you wouldn't have tooth decay, lol!

My grandmother was like that. Don't know the exact details but apparently she was anemic and the treatment at the turn of the century was drinking some iron based concoction that destroyed her teeth. She had full dentures before thirty. From what they say my grandfather never knew...or the horror, that she tinted her hair...

I have a little red plastic box with a lid that I got at some dollar store or other & usually after dinner if I'm home & not expecting any guests, take them out, brush & soak them with a denture tablet, then rinse them out & soak in fresh water over night when I go to bed. Have had them 9 years, just had to go back to the denturist this winter to get a little chip repaired, and his staff complimented me on how new & well cared for they looked. Can't take any credit, just did what I was told to do originally.

I have to confess, Lon, sometimes I don't take mine out either at night but then after awhile I started worrying about getting too much bacteria in my mouth and I soak it.

I recently got a lower partial and was told to keep them wet when not in my mouth, so it soaks in cold water overnight. My denturist said it was preferable to take them out at night.
