Questions about Senior Forums

Hi Everyone,

Last year, after I moved to my retirement community, I was looking on the internet for a message board of where to exchange thoughts and ideas with other senior citizens. I found Senior Forums and joined in August. I love it! There are members from all over the world. I've posted four other threads and replied to many others. I have received a decent number of responses to my threads and my replies, which I greatly appreciate.

Being a curious fellow, a few questions come to mind. If I added correctly, there are about 55,000 threads with over 1.5 million replies. When was Senior Forums started and by whom? About how many members are there worldwide? I am listed as a New Member. How does one graduate to being a Member and a Senior Member? Is it based on your number of posts and your number of reactions, or is it a function of how long one has been a member? I have looked unsuccessfully for a drop down that gives more information about Senior Forums itself.

Thanks
Dennis

The more you post the more you 'climb the ladder' of membership.. but @John cycling is also correct in that you can write your own title if you wish

Its one of the best I feel for over fifties, (I've only experienced a handful but that's my view!). :)

I started the forum on Mar. 17, 2012, that's the day I joined, which you can see on my profile page. @SeaBreeze helped me get the forum off the ground since the beginning. With the help and contribution from many long time members, SF has become a fun and friendly place for everyone to enjoy.

Please understand that a forum is all about its members, our members are funny, kind, generous, caring and always there to support each other. I don't participate in the discussions as I'm not a senior yet, a few years short, but I read a lot, learned a lot and had so much fun over the years.

The title ladder is solely based on post count, the final title is "SF VIP", many long time members have acquired it.

There's no advertising on S.F. So, I always wondered who was financing the site. I'm grateful to whoever is footing the bill.
There is advertising on S.F. I posted about it the other day. I was using Chrome (instead of Brave with ad blocker, which I usually use). Several ads popped up and I thought it was something new on SF. When someone responded to use ad blocker I realized it was because I don't have an ad blocker on Chrome. Immediately signed out and went back to Brave....no ads. So you must have an ad blocker.

Thank you and @SeaBreeze for starting SF and maintaining it. Reading the history was very interesting. I was wondering why you didn't participate in the discussions more. Now I know. :)

Hmmm? I'm on Chrome and I don't see any ads on SF. And I can even visit the Weather Channel that will absolutely not allow you to have an Ad Blocker and I still have full access. Don't ask me why. I just had a new hard drive installed in my 9 year-old Macbook Pro and Geek Squad must have worked some magic.

I don't know why that is my friend. Maybe I'll try Chrome again and take a picture if ads show up next time.

There are a couple of Google ads on the forum, but not spammy and bombarded with popups like some other boards. I use Firefox, and use no ad blockers. I only see one ad on the main page at the bottom on the right under forum statistics, and there's one that shows sometimes at the top of the page when I'm browsing the threads. I haven't seen any more than two, and never both at once.

Thanks Matrix and SeaBreeze. Job well done to the benefit of many thousands!

I've accessed SF on Edge (what I usually use now), Chrome and Firefox and don't remember getting ads on any and don't have any ad blockers installed as far as I know.
