I would think it is up to the individual, or medicial My husband is diabetic, so he must go to a opthomologist regularly. If you are experiencing vision issues, then go in. Many health plans have vision plans.

I think for most of us it is more important as we get older. My eyes didn't change hardly any up until I was about 65 -- then my near vision started to go to pot.
I think the routine check for glaucoma, at the very least, is important every so often for everyone. They say it gives no symptoms early on, but it can ultimately destroy your vision.

Thank you @Marie5656 and @Butterfly for your replies.
I need to go again this year, it's been a couple of years since I went in for an eye test and my sight has gotten worse in my sixties, still just using 1.75 power readers and the doc said that was okay last time. I use eye drops a few times a week too, when my eyes feel strained, either Refreshe Tears or Simalason homeopathic for aging eyes.
