Rabbit Breeding Season -- AKA The Wrong Kind of Bunny Love

Sure they're cute, but did you know that a doe can have 800 kits a year?

This wouldn't bother me too much except they seem to want to have them all in my fenced in back yard. What else is inside that fence? My Dachshund. She's 16 years old, blind, deaf wasted down to 6 pounds, but last night I let her out to go at 2AM. She was gone for a half hour, came back, at 3 AM threw up a baby rabbit in my bed. Today she threw up 2 more on my good sofa.

It's going to be a long summer.

I sympathize. I'm saddened for life after one year accidentally mowing part of the ear off a baby bunny that was in a nest in the grass of my back yard.
Awww I totally understand. I once cut a leg off a frog while mowing and I've never sobbed so hard about anything.

Threw up meaning your dog ate the rabbits?
Swallowed them whole.

My son went out and walked the whole yard finding only the one nest. It still had two live bunnies in the nest. So he shoveled the whole nest and kits and put it outside the fence so my dog couldn't get at it tonight. We doubt that they'll live, but it wont be such a horrible death and I wont have the horror going on in the house anymore. My old dog has no teeth, I can't believe she did that.

I just read that the kits are on their own at about five inches and these looked almost that big so maybe they'll make it.
